Pictorial To Be Honored At Rainforest Alliance Gala

Carlstadt, NJ, February 7, 2006 – Pictorial Offset Corporation, the largest privately-owned, single-facility commercial printer in the United States, will be recognized for its environmental stewardship policies and practices at the 16th Annual Rainforest Alliance Gala. The Rainforest Alliance Gala celebrates sustainable forestry, agriculture and tourism and will take place on May 17, 2006 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City At the Gala, the Rainforest Alliance will present the Award for Corporate Sustainable Standard-Setter to Pictorial Offset Corporation. The mission of the Rainforest Alliance is to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Companies, cooperatives and landowners that participate in Rainforest Alliance programs meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and provide sustainable livelihoods. The Rainforest Alliance bestows these awards annually on companies that demonstrate leadership in areas that reflect the values and the mission of the organization. Other honorees at the Rainforest Alliance Gala will include companies from Bolivia, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Columbia, Japan and the Individual Green Globe Awardee is Art Wolfe, a nature photographer based in Seattle, Washington. Former awardees include: AT&T, Ben & Jerry’s, Chiquita Brands International, FedExKinko’s, Domtar, Discovery Communications, J.P. Morgan & Co., Inc., Nickelodeon, David Refkin of Time, Inc., Alec Baldwin, Jayni and Chevy Chase, Walter Cronkite, Dr. Jane Goodall, IKEA, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Tembec Kraft Foods, Inc. and Ted Turner. Pictorial has dual certification by the International Standards Organization (ISO) for both quality (9001:2000) and environment (14001:2004) and has had them since 1998, and was recently re-certified by Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood program for forest sustainability through the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) Chain-of-Custody Program. Also in 2005, Pictorial Offset Corporation was the first printer in North America to offer FSC certified house stock papers from Domtar, Neenah and Mohawk. “Being certified by the Rainforest Alliance through their SmartWood division to use the FSC logo on our client’s products is an honor, and is consistent with our company’s passion for environmental responsibility,” says Donald Samuels, Managing Partner of Pictorial Offset Corporation. “As the business trend of publicizing corporate environmental and social responsibility continues to increase, more corporations, designers and print buyers are specifying the use of printed products that reduce consumption of natural resources.” Samuels continues, “We are delighted and humbled that the Rainforest Alliance has singled-out Pictorial Offset Corporation for this recognition.
