Presstek 52DI Press Chosen by Friesens

Tuesday, June 03, 2008

Press release from the issuing company

Hudson, NH – June 2, 2008 – Presstek, Inc., the leading manufacturer and marketer of digital offset printing business solutions, today announced that Friesens Corporation, the 74th ranked printer in Printing Impressions Magazine ranking of the Top 400 Printers in North America, has chosen the Presstek 52DI digital offset press to print book covers for its Book and Yearbook Divisions.

Friesens, with over 600 employees, publishes books all across North America and specializes in color hard and soft cover books. Garnering more than 50 printing excellence awards over the past ten years, Friesens produces a full range of book products; including coffee table books, art books, educational books, trade books, cookbooks and children’s books.

“We were looking for a way to address the requirements we have for short run, high quality book covers, which we could not profitably produce on our larger presses,” said Curwin Friesen, President of Friesens Corporation. After evaluating the 52DI, we have found our answer. The Presstek 52DI is the perfect complement to our multiple 40-inch and 50-inch presses. We now print the covers on the DI and the higher volume of pages and covers on our larger presses.”

The highly automated Presstek 52DI digital offset press delivers environmentally friendly high quality, short run four-color offset printing, economical in run length quantities as low as 250. Today, Presstek DI presses are the bridge that spans the gap between conventional offset and digital toner-based presses. According to InfoTrends research, the Presstek DI delivers a 50 percent cost savings on average per letter-size page when compared to a high-volume production color digital press and job profitability is 13 percent higher on a DI press when compared to a conventional offset press.

The Presstek 52DI is a 52cm landscape format press with a maximum sheet size of 510 x 360 mm. The waterless technology of the 52DI press, in addition to the unique 2:1 roll out ratio of the ink train, provide the benefits of unparalleled ink coverage and the ability to print solids more easily. This press supports 300 lpi printing, as well as stochastic (FM) screening without incurring additional time or expense, and can handle a wide range of substrates from onion skin to heavy card stock, as well as synthetics.

“Friesens’ business objective is to provide their customers with service, quality and price,” said Mark Levin, Presstek’s president of the Americas. “By publishing books in this hybrid workflow using the Presstek 52DI alongside large format presses they will be able to deliver on all three objectives. And we concur with the words of their founder, D.W. Friesen who said, ‘Our company will only be successful if our customers are successful.’ We look forward to a long relationship with Friesens Corporation.”
