Ditto Document Solutions Installs First Xerox iGen3 Digital Color Press in Pittsburgh

Press release from the issuing company

PITTSBURGH & ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Jan. 13, 2006-- Ditto Document Solutions is growing its customer base and profits after recently installing four high-speed digital printing systems from Xerox Corporation. The new products are Pittsburgh's first Xerox iGen3 110 Digital Production Press, two Xerox Nuvera(TM) 120 Digital Production Systems, and a Xerox Nuvera(TM) 120 Digital Copier/Printer. The graphic communications company, serving many Fortune 500 companies in Pittsburgh, has offered digital color printing for almost five years but is experiencing high volume growth with the new systems. Ditto Document Solutions currently produces 500,000 pages a month on the iGen3 color press and expects volume to double over the next 12 months. The company is having similar success with its new black-and-white technology, producing close to 5 million pages each month on the three Xerox Nuvera systems. "We are not selling print anymore. Our focus is to provide more value to our clients, boost their ROI, and meet the growing demands for personalization, short-runs and quick turnaround," said Ken Shriber, co-founder, Ditto Document Solutions. "The Xerox digital systems are helping us bring in new customers and grow our business. We're already planning to install a second iGen3 press and a fourth Xerox Nuvera system." According to Shriber, the company purchased the Xerox iGen3 press for its superior image quality compared to competitive presses, personalization capabilities, and the flexibility to print on a variety of paper sizes and weights. Ditto Document Solutions is printing a range of jobs including brochures, presentations, direct-mail pieces, postcards and labels. Shriber said a print buyer recently learned that Ditto Document Solutions had installed the Xerox iGen3 press and sent the company jobs to test the press' capabilities. The buyer was so impressed with the image quality that he's now sending jobs previously printed on offset presses to Ditto Document Solutions. By adding the Xerox iGen3 and hiring database management experts, the company anticipates increasing its personalized printing business from less than 5 percent of its total digital color print volume to between 50 percent and 70 percent within two years. For example, Ditto Document Solutions is printing thousands of customized signs for a large retailer on the Xerox iGen3 press that had been produced on offset. By using digital, the retailer can now easily modify the signage to reflect changing prices and offers and have the materials printed and shipped to stores within 24 hours. Xerox Nuvera systems One of the key reasons the company chose the Nuvera digital systems was their high image quality. Shriber said other print shops are now outsourcing black-and-white jobs to Ditto Document Solutions, helping grow print volume. The company, which produces books, manuals and catalogs on the Xerox Nuvera systems, is also getting many jobs that used to be printed in large quantities on offset presses, often resulting in inventories that were never used. Now the jobs are produced on-demand with no inventory. Among its customers: One local publishing company creates customized information books for 300 colleges detailing a variety of subjects for potential students, including academics, campus housing and nightlife. Ditto Document Solutions maintains a library of the guides online, changes are made on the Web, and the books are printed on-demand - typically between 20,000 and 40,000 each month. The book covers are printed on the Xerox iGen3 and the inside pages are produced on the Xerox Nuvera Digital Production Systems. The company operates other Xerox digital printing systems and uses the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) DocuSP print controller on each piece of equipment to provide a common interface across its products and to make it easier to train equipment operators.
