Ken Englander of Central Lewmar To Be Honored At Printing Week Dinner in NYC

Press release from the issuing company

NEW YORK, N.Y., January 13, 2006 -- Ken Englander, a senior executive of Central Lewmar, a leading paper merchant group, will receive the Florence B. & Leo H. Joachim Award at the New York Chapter of Printing House Craftsmen’s Printing Week Dinner on January 17, 2006. The award, recognizing exceptional service, goes to Mr. Englander by the vote of a committee representing most of the industry groups and clubs in the New York-New Jersey metro area. These groups also will use the occasion to present Joseph A. Fielder Fellowship Awards to their outstanding members. The Printing Week Dinner is an annual celebration hosted by the New York Chapter, one of 80 chapters of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen (IAPHC) that observe Printing Week during the week of Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. This year the New York observance coincides with the tercentenary of Franklin’s birth on January 17, 1706. It is an evening of fellowship that celebrates the customs and ideals of the industry as epitomized by those honored with the Joachim and Fielder Awards. Joachim Award nominees must be volunteers in industry causes or members of print-related guilds, clubs, or associations with distinguished records of service to those organizations or to individuals. Those with outstanding credentials in industry education or technology also may be proposed. Previous recipients of the Joachim Award include some of the best known and most influential figures in the region served by the New York Chapter. The award is named for the late publishers of weekly, monthly, and annual trade publications for the graphic arts, well remembered by many for their support of the Printing Week Dinner and other industry activities. This year’s Joachim Award winner began his career in the graphic arts 46 years ago in the sample department of Central Paper Company, predecessor to Central Lewmar.  Having advanced through customer service, sales, and sales management, he currently serves the company as senior vice president. A reocgnized authority on paper specification, Englander oversees Central Lewmar’s relationships with its paper mills and printer customers. He has served on many paper industry advisory boards and chaired committees for International Paper, Strathmore Paper, S.D. Warren, and Sappi. He taught the “Paper for the Graphic Arts” course for the Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) for five years. He produces Central Lewmar’s Weekly Update, a bulletin that tracks significant trends in the paper business. Englander’s voluntary service to the industry commenced in 1964 when he joined the New Jersey Club (now Chapter) of Printing House Craftsmen. He was the Club’s president for three years and has been a member of its Board of Governors. Englander also has served as president of the Second District Association of Printing House Craftsmen. He was recognized by the IAPHC in 1995 with the Premier Craftsman Award and was a recipient of the Fellowship Award from the New York Club in 1990. He was inducted into the Century Club of AGC in 1997. The Joseph A. Fielder Fellowship Awards salute leadership and service in the groups and clubs that support the Printing Week Dinner. This year’s recipients and their sponsoring organizations are Richard Dolan, Advertising Production Club of New York; Florence Jackson, AGC; Richard Skolnik, Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association of New York; Nick Vertucci, Metro New York Printing Ink Association; Roberta Hamilton, Mid Hudson Graphic Arts Association; Len Vadala, New Jersey Chapter of Printing House Craftsmen; Lloyd Carr, New York Chapter of Printing House Craftsmen; David Luke, Partnership in Print Production; John Wallace, Jr., Printers Supply Salesmen Guild; and Patricia Crispino, Printing Teachers Guild. The Printing Week Dinner will take place at 6 p.m. on January 17 at La Maganette Restaurant, Third Avenue at 50th Street in Manhattan.
