Consolidated Press Expands Capabilities with Installation of Its First Komori Press

Press release from the issuing company

Rolling Meadows, IL, January 12, 2006 -- Komori America Corporation, a premier manufacturer of sheetfed and web offset printing presses, today announced Consolidated Press, a commercial print provider for the communication, publication and distribution industries co-owned by Gary Stone and Robert Brown, has recently installed a five-color Lithrone 540SP at its Seattle facility to replace its three existing Heidelberg presses. With the installation of the new Komori press, Consolidated Press is able to broaden its product capabilities and take on special projects because of the press' ability to print on a variety of substrates, to lay down special colors and overprint varnish. The company also reports it is reducing costs and experiencing a faster time to market with commercial print work that includes high-end catalogs, magazines, posters and brochures due to the flexibility, intuitive technology and speed of the Lithrone 540SP. Offering sheetfed quality and near-web productivity, the Lithrone 540SP delivers both higher efficiency and quality because it prints on both sides of the sheets in a single pass. Consolidated's customers are now able to press check both sides of an application at one time, significantly reducing the turnaround time of time-sensitive print jobs. Additionally, because the sheet is not reversed, the issue of front/back quality variation inherent to conventional perfectors is eliminated, which also saves time and labor costs. Consolidated Press cites that the speed of the press coupled with the productivity of single-pass printing has increased throughput capacity five times over that of its previous sheetfed presses. Additionally, a Magnum roll sheeter purchased with the Lithrone 540SP is also helping to reduce costs by making it possible for Consolidated to choose cut sheets of stock or roll paper depending on pricing advantages. “We were maxing out our capacity on both our sheetfed and web presses and we found the Lithrone 540SP to be the perfect solution to our problem because it successfully bridges the gap between web and sheetfed applications,” said Gary Stone, owner and CEO of Consolidated Press. “The press is also very user-friendly. We have two operators who have never run a Komori press and things are going very smoothly. Overall, we've had an excellent experience with Komori. They are right there to take care of any questions or issues we may have.” Additional key drivers in the selection of the press were its CIP4/JDF connectivity that makes it possible to have a real-time view of press operating conditions, optimizing workflow processes. Consolidated Press also takes advantage of Komori's PDC-S spectrodensitometer and K-ColorProfiler for sophisticated color management, ensuring successful ink control that is vital when printing high-quality magazines and catalogs. “Consolidated Press is widely respected for its quality print capabilities and focused attention on customer service,” said Paul Peyrebrune, vice president of sales for Komori's Western Region. “We are pleased the addition of the Lithrone 540 Super Perfector is supporting both of those initiatives by delivering a new standard of excellence when it comes to meeting the demands of high-quality printing. Even more important is Consolidated's positive customer experience working with Komori. Our goal is to always deliver the highest level of technology, service and support in order to give our customers a distinct advantage over their competitors.”
