Deutsch Inc. in-house production department selects GMG ColorProof

Press release from the issuing company

Norwell, MA (January 10, 2006) – GMG, developer and marketer of high end color management and proofing solutions, reports that Deutsch Inc. has successfully installed a GMG ColorProof system at Yellow Fin Premedia, the company’s full service, state-of-the-art graphic services boutique, in New York City. The GMG ColorProof software is driving two Epson digital inkjet printers – one with newsprint and one with regular coated stock. Last year, Deutsch Inc., one of the most powerful names in the advertising world, launched Yellow Fin Premedia, an operating unit that provides a full range of print and integrated graphics production services for Deutsch clients. Created under the stewardship of Robb DeFilippis, Senior Vice President, Director of Print Services at Deutsch Inc., Yellow Fin is a revolutionary approach toward print production and delivers all of the traditional services of an outside high-end facility while leveraging the creative expertise and capabilities of the agency’s in-house print studio. With a staff of 60 in New York and more than 30 in Los Angeles, Yellow Fin has served clients such as Revlon, Tylenol, Novartis, Monster, Starwood and Tommy Hilfiger. Yellow Fin was looking to increase productivity and efficiency, while working with shortening deadlines and shrinking budgets. They understood that no department could be a successful graphic arts operation, small or large, without employing some measure of color management and quality control. Color management and calibration hardware and software tools would allow Yellow Fin to have more confidence in everything they did. Yellow Fin needed the quality standard established by traditional, thermal-based digital proofing solutions costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, but with a purchase and operating cost of ink jet solutions. GMG was the only inkjet solution able to provide them both – along with SWOP certification. That, as well as the scalability of the system, steered Yellow Fin to GMG ColorProof with DotProof. GMG ColorProof is the most cost-effective, high-end proofing solution on the market. It meets all contract proofing requirements, including color accuracy and repeatability. GMG ColorProof includes simplified installation tools, allowing users to quickly produce great looking proofs right out of the box. The user interface makes navigating in GMG ColorProof more intuitive, enabling users to get up to speed even more quickly. Particular emphasis has been placed on a seamless integration into various workflow systems. By integrating the SWOP and Gracol standards, GMG answers the growing demand for standardization. GMG ColorProof includes native support for remote proofing, allowing numerically verifiable color results between all locations. The GMG DotProof option generates contract quality halftone proofs, using original bitmap data. The installation by AI Friedman, supported by GMG, went very smoothly. “AI Friedman has been very helpful to the creation of our new, in-house proofing service,” remarks DeFillipis. “They understood that we were building the best production facility for the best creative in order to develop the best advertising manufacturing facility. And, GMG support has been great. If there is a hiccup, they address it immediately and satisfactorily.” Yellow Fin is using GMG ColorProof for both magazine and newspaper ads. On a busy newspaper night, they produce a few hundred ganged-up proofs. The speed of GMG ColorProof has increased productivity, delivering a quicker turnaround. It provides art directors more control to take a creative risk on layouts, with the knowledge that they will have enough time to conduct a couple more design rounds to refine their work. No longer are they waiting for a contract proof. Rather than taking an hour and a half to see another proof, it only takes fifteen minutes. “We were faced with a situation preparing release of an ad to a publication. Late in the afternoon, everything was ready to go, when our account people received a client call with a copy change. It seems that some sensitive legal copy had to be replaced,” remembers DeFillipis. “In the past, it would have been too late and we would have had to pull the ad. The problem was the busy background behind the copy. We had to change the background art to accommodate the small type to assure it was still visible. So, we made the type and design changes, created a proof, and sent it to everyone – including the client. They all felt safe that the copy would be visible. It had to be legible, and the GMG ColorProof system with DotProof allowed us to see the type through the rosettes of the vignette correctly. Ultimately, we made the issue our client wanted, with time-sensitive material. Until we purchased GMG ColorProof, that would not have been possible.” Yellow Fin appreciates the predictability and consistency of GMG ColorProof. “You profile it and it stays in tolerance better than any other system. GMG ColorProof provides us the luxury of not having to baby-sit the system,” summarizes DeFillipis. “The proof is in the proof.”
