Quad/Graphics Awarded Multi-Year Contract Renewal From Rodale Inc.

Press release from the issuing company

SUSSEX, Wis.--Dec. 2, 2005-- Quad/Graphics has renewed its business relationship with publisher Rodale Inc. with a multi-year agreement for the production of eight magazine titles as well as specials and promotional pieces. Under the agreement, Quad/Graphics will continue to print Backpacker, Best Life, Bicycling, Men's Health, Mountain Bike, Organic Gardening and Women's Health. Additionally, Quad/Graphics will begin production of an eighth title, Runner's World, in January 2006. In total, Quad/Graphics will print more than 60 million copies of the eight magazines annually, plus specials such as High School Runner. The new agreement also includes the continued production of digest-size, saddle-stitched pieces that primarily promote the publisher's growing stable of book titles. Quad/Graphics will print in excess of 80 million promotional pieces each year over the life of the new contract. While Quad/Graphics' forward-thinking approach to economic and technological platforms were the primary reasons for Rodale awarding the new and renewed work, the quality of the relationship was equally important. "It's inevitable that over the life of a contract there will be some issues that arise, but with Quad/Graphics, there's no excuses, no far-fetched explanations, no deflection of responsibility," said Mike Sudik, Senior Vice President of Operations for Rodale Inc. "From the plant floor to the senior team, I've been impressed with the consistent focus on first listening, then doing whatever it takes to serve the customer. I've yet to be disappointed." "We're extremely proud to expand our relationship with a well-regarded publisher like Rodale," said Joel Quadracci, President & Chief Operating Officer of Quad/Graphics. "The Rodale organization treats us as a partner, as an integral part of its business. Everyone there values our commitment to using the latest print-production technology and out-of-the-box approach to service, all of which reap them measurable time- and cost-savings and improvements in quality." In addition to capitalizing on Quad-enabled workflow management tools such as Impoze for the planning, manufacturing and distribution of its magazines, and DBLonline for the online approval of plate-ready files, Rodale benefits from the printer's comprehensive Multi-Mailing program, which generates significant postal savings by combining the mailstreams of several different publishers into one large mailstream presorted for postal efficiencies. Quad/Graphics' relationship with Rodale Inc. began in mid-2001 with the printing of one magazine title. By December 2002, Quad/Graphics had entered into a multi-year contract to print six additional titles, including the much-admired Men's Health. In subsequent years, Rodale continued to demonstrate its trust in Quad/Graphics by awarding the printer new magazine launches, including Best Life (which officially debuted with the Spring/Summer 2004 issue) and Women's Health (which officially launched with the November/December 2005 issue).
