November 23rd, 2005 –The Post Register in Idaho Falls, Idaho has selected integrated technology from Goss International to meet expanded volume and zoning requirements in its packaging operation. The newspaper will install a shaftless Goss Magnapak system with 22 hoppers in a new production center to be built in 2006. Goss will also supply its Goss NP200 press gripper, bundle distribution system and Goss Omnizone supervisory and down-stream controls. “Our research included visits to ten other sites running the Goss Magnapak and systems from other leading suppliers,” explains Roger Plothow, editor and publisher of the Post Register. “In the end, we felt the Magnapak was a very substantial, mechanically solid machine that could meet our needs for many years to come.” Plothow says the paper has experienced double-digit growth in preprint advertising volume over the past five years and he expects volume growth to continue for the next five to ten years. “We’re also seeing an increased demand for zoning and targeting, so the capabilities of the Goss Omnizone control software will be essential,” he explains. The new Goss packaging system at the Post Register will be used for daily, Sunday, and quarter-fold semi-commercial inserting. This integrated system will generate package work-orders from the newspaper’s host systems and transfer this zoned production data through the Magnapak system as well as downstream newspaper stackers and ink-jet printers. The Post Register is an employee owned newspaper serving southeastern Idaho. Daily circulation is 26,000.
