Andrews Printing Increases Efficiency With Small-Format Press From Heidelberg

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., November 28, 2005 – Andrews Printing, a small to mid-sized general commercial printer based in Harvey, Ill., recently installed a four-color Printmaster PM 52 from Heidelberg. The new press was chosen for its fast makeready times, easy operation and ability to meet the shop’s increasing customer demand for high-quality four-color work. “We wanted the best press to uphold our high standards of quality for customers, so we installed a Heidelberg,” said Rich Andrews, manager for Andrews Printing. ”The PM 52 enables us to produce more work in less time, doubling our production. Some printers might install a press that they hope to have use for in the future, but we buy equipment based on customer demand.” The Printmaster PM 52 replaces the shop’s Heidelberg Printmaster GTO 52-2, which previously handled the shop’s four-color jobs in two runs. Having generated more than 4.3 million impressions since its installation in December 2004, the PM 52 is used to produce a variety of marketing and promotional materials, including direct mail pieces and brochures. Andrews reported that the new press has drastically increased efficiency due to fast changeovers, speed and versatility. Referring to the equipment as the shop’s “workhorse,” Andrews also noted the PM 52’s role in significantly decreasing employee overtime. Heidelberg’s Printmaster series specifically is tailored to the needs of small to medium-sized printers entering the multicolor offset printing market. These versatile presses meet printers’ requirements by combining a broad spectrum of printing stock, a sturdy and reliable design and direct operating capabilities. In addition, the Printmaster PM 52 boasts a variety of optional features to ensure maximum productivity, including perfecting capabilities and remote ink key adjustments. Andrews reported that when used in conjunction with existing Heidelberg equipment, the new press allows the shop to expedite print jobs. In addition to benefits in the shop, customers have noticed a significant improvement in the quality of work produced on the PM 52. “Since the installation, we have had long-time customers report that job quality is the best they have experienced,” Andrews said. “That type of feedback typically leads to more work from our customers. After our positive experiences with our two-color GTO, we had every confidence in moving to a four-color Heidelberg press, a decision which has not let us down.” Founded in 1948, Andrews Printing still uses some of its original presses, including a Heidelberg platen press. The family-owned and operated shop has more than doubled in size in the past 10 years. Andrews Printing primarily services clients in the Chicago area, including small businesses, casino boats, non-profit organizations, local schools, universities and churches.
