November XX, 2005. Lexington, KY. -- In a free Webinar hosted by WhatTheyThink.com, the printing industry’s leading source of news and information, WhatTheyThink Senior Editor Cary Sherburne conducted an educational briefing on the impact of a Print MIS solution in profitability of a printing operation. Sherburne was joined by Sam Shaffer, General Manager of Marketing Services by Vectra, and David Bennett, President of Bennett Graphics, both long-time print MIS users and advocates, who shared their real-world results relative to Print MIS. Nearly 250 senior printing executives from around the world registered for this event, which was sponsored by EFI. The audio of the Webinar and PDF of the presentation are available online at WhatTheyThink.com. “Improved profitability is key in today’s fast-paced and highly competitive world of business communications,” said Sherburne. “Our two speakers have both had their Print MIS solutions installed for some time, and were able to articulate the impact of Print MIS on profitability in their own businesses. Both are planning to add an executive dashboard overlay to their Print MIS to make the data even more accessible and useful.” Shaffer reported that his company ties merit increases to performance by using data from his print MIS to improve productivity in his operation. He commented, “We are also able to provide our managers across the board with actionable information relevant to their specific roles and responsibilities. This helps to significantly improve our profitability.” Shaffer also noted that by implementing a dynamic scheduling solution integrated with the print MIS, he has been able to improve throughput by 20%. “Dynamic scheduling,” he said, “is one of the most important elements you can have as part of your MIS.” Bennett added, “To avoid information overload, we have found that the key is to be able to identify and extract just the information you need to make the right decisions, and our MIS plays a key role in doing that. We are looking forward to implementing an executive dashboard soon that will make the extraction of that information even easier.” Both presenters cited examples of how they use their Print MIS to make decisions relative to new capital acquisitions, giving them what they believe will be a better start on acquiring capital items that will deliver incremental profitability to their businesses.
