Domtar Lauds Books As Vehicles Of Change

Press release from the issuing company

MONTREAL, Nov. 2 -- Domtar is proud to announce its support for The Literacy Foundation in its campaign to raise awareness for the literacy cause for a ninth consecutive year. Literacy is a persistent problem that continues to be felt throughout our society, and it must be stamped out. Over a million people in the province of Quebec are held back by some form of reading or writing problem. Domtar has committed its support for two Foundation projects: Domtar's Paper Christmas for Literacy and The Gift of Reading. Under the first program, annual paper supplies are distributed to 200 Quebec agencies working for adult literacy. The second project provides new books for children up the age of 12 who are living in disadvantaged situations. The program is designed to battle illiteracy and reduce school dropout rates. In Quebec today, 309,340 young people under 17 are still living in poverty. The Gift of Reading represents for Domtar an important educational contribution, because we believe that every child must be able to read and write if they are to pursue their dreams. Domtar would like all Quebec companies to get involved, and invites everyone to see how that first brand-new book can change a child's life. You are invited to join in the effort to supply the over 100,000 new books needed by the Foundation annually. Donate your new books at the Salon du livre de Montreal, or at one of the 150 participating bookstores across Quebec in November and December.
