Press release from the issuing company

Tucson Newspapers and The Arizona Republic have announced that they will jointly host the 38th Metro Users Group Conference to be held at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Resort from Saturday, February 25 through Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Following the unqualified success of this year’s Conference in San Antonio, TX, which hosted around 300 newspaper production delegates representing 108 newspapers, the Goss Metro Users Group urges members to register for the 2006 event as early as possible. With a program that includes cost-saving and revenue-enhancing ideas, Goss International technology updates, breakout sessions, technical seminars and a tour of the Tucson Newspapers production facility, as well as the annual Metro Users Golf Tournament, the 38th Conference promises to be the essential information gathering and networking opportunity of 2006. A feature of the 2006 event is the inclusion of specific new technical topics of immediate reference to the industry, including lightweight newsprint, further web width reductions and disaster recovery sessions. Larry Appleby, President of the Metro Users Group comments, “The Metro Users Group is the largest newspaper printing press users’ organization in the world, and our annual meeting provides a unique forum for the free and candid exchange of information, ideas, questions, problem-solving techniques, and networking opportunities. With over approximately 300 delegates representing 108 newspapers from the United States, Canada, Latin America, and as far away as Singapore, the 2005 Conference was an outstanding success. “We anticipate the same success for the 38th Conference in Tucson and are looking forward to hearing the ideas and opinions of our members that will serve to benefit the newspaper publishing industry as a whole. “The networking opportunity with other delegates provides access to vast Goss press production and technical experience among the attendees. This, plus the ‘learning’ opportunity from a packed program of sessions makes this conference a ‘don’t miss’ event.” concludes Larry Appleby. Listed below are some of the highlighted topics that will be covered during the 2006 Tucson event: - Lightweight newsprint opportunities - Further press web width reductions - Technical panels on maintenance and quality - Press replacements and enhancements - Disaster recovery techniques and learnings The Metro Users Group was formed in the United States in 1968 to allow the sharing of knowledge of leading-edge newspaper production techniques. Since its founding, the Group has expanded to embrace Goss double width models including Metro, Metro-Offset, Metroliner, Cosmo-Offset, Headliner, Colorliner and Newsliner presses, as well as the single width Universal range of presses. The Metro Users Group has contributed greatly to driving change and growth in offset newspaper production in the United States and around the world.
