PITTSBURGH -- October 20, 2005 - The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) today announced that they have produced and begun promoting a guide for local printing and publishing businesses can use to help attract new people to the graphic arts industry. The booklet "Careers in Graphic Communications, A Student's Guide" is available for printing and distribution on a local basis. This guide is designed as a primer on the variety of jobs and career choices available in the industry. Parties interested in producing the Careers Guide, can contact Bernie Eckert, Program Administrator, PGSF, at [email protected], 412-259-1740, or fax 412-741-2311. PGSF Quote... "One of the greatest challenges for the graphic arts industry is attracting, then educating, bright young people," noted Ted Ringman, Vice President of Development at the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. "Often we find that career influences are based on old and outdated information of what printing is and what a printing shop looks like. Today graphic communications is a highly technical and very sophisticated industry experiencing rapid change. As an industry we need to get the message out to students that there are exciting career opportunities available." Availability... PGSF has CDs available, at no cost, with the PDF files to produce this booklet on a local basis. This four-color 12-page digest-sized booklet can be printed on a small digital imaging engine or two-up on a 40-inch sheetfed press. Graphic communications companies are encouraged to produce the booklets and deliver them to guidance counselors at local high schools and to administrators at junior high schools. Companies should feel free to add their name and logo. The Careers Guide can also be used during company tours, open houses, and career day events. Please join other companies that are helping to promote career opportunities in graphic communications. Heidelberg USA, for example, printed 10,000 booklets that were distributed to visiting students and educators at PRINT 05 & CONVERTING 05. Parties interested in producing the Careers Guide, can contact Bernie Eckert, Program Administrator at PGSF, at [email protected], 412-259-1740, or fax 412741-2311.
