Printing Industries Alliance To Sponsor Green Printing Conference

Press release from the issuing company

CRANFORD, NJ. May 27, 2008—Printing Industries Alliance’s Long Island chapter, PIA-LI, will sponsor a two-day conference June 10 and 11, 2008 on “Sustainability: What Being GREEN Really Means and How to Market Your ‘Greenness’ Effectively” at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, conveniently located at the Nassau/Suffolk Counties border (directly off LIE/495 Exit 48).

Never before in our country’s history has the push for environmental responsibility—and environmental accountability—been so popular—and so necessary. The issue of “sustainable” printing has rapidly emerged to become the most pressing issue faced by printers today.  To help printers of all sizes understand these issues better and to help them commence or improve their “green” marketing efforts, PIA and our industry’s leading trade newspaper, Printing News, will offer invaluable insights about Environmental Management Systems, certification options, first-hand “green marketing” experiences, sustainability from the design/print perspective, Long Island-based environmental grants/resources, and ways to reduce your overhead while maintaining your “green.”

Keynote speaker Gary Jones, internationally known EHS Director for PIA/GATF, will explore the motivating factors, benefits and ways to respond to customer demands for producing green printing. Participants will also get a first-hand look into PIA/GATF’s new Sustainable Green Printing Partnership.

Featured on Tuesday, June 10 (5:30-9:00 pm) will be a networking reception, dinner buffet and panel presentation followed by interactive panel/audience discussion. Featured speakers include Mr. Jones, Howard Swerdloff (Sandy Alexander, Inc.) on “How Firms of Any Size can Be Environmentally Responsible and Make Money Doing It” and PIA-LI Steering Committee Chairman Rich Barbaria (Strategic  Graphic Solutions) on “Environmental Management Systems and Certification Options for Small, Medium and Large-Sized Firms.”

The Wednesday, June 11 program (8:00 am- 12:00 noon) begins with a continental breakfast, followed by presentations by Mr. Jones, Mr. Barbaria, Richard Schielke (Mohawk Fine Papers) on “Sustainability from a Design/Paper Perspective”, Edward Ragazzi (National Energy Services Corporation) on “Energy Conservation and Ways to Save on Energy Expenses”, Bill Wahlig (Long Island Forum for Technology) on “Green Manufacturing, Energy/Environmental Grants, and Long Island-based Initiatives and Resources”, Louis Troiano (Reliable Paper Recycling/Reliable Wood Products) on “Recycling Materials/Ways to Turn Your Trash Into Cash”, and Toni McQuilken (Editor, Printing News) on “Market Yourself Green: Get the Word Out on Your Green Efforts”.  An interactive speaker/audience discussion is also scheduled.

Fees for the June 10 session are $40 (PIA Members) and $65 (Non-members). Fees for the Wednesday, June 11 session are $75 (PIA Members) and $150 (Non-members).  CEOs, CFOs, environmental/procurement/operations managers and sales/marketing team representatives are encouraged to attend either or both programs.
