Valassis Employees Support Hurricane Relief Efforts

LIVONIA, Mich., Sept. 28 -- Valassis, the leading company in marketing services and Connective Media(TM), announced today the results of its National Hurricane Katrina Relief Fundraising Telethon and week-long national and local donation drives. "During our telethon, Valassis raised nearly $40,000 in one afternoon," said Carol Spann, Director of Global Human Resources. "All monies and goods will be disbursed equally between The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity." On a national level, 339,304 Pampers First Steps and Swaddlers diapers were donated in coordination with Procter & Gamble from the Valassis Promotional Distribution warehouse in Calexico, Calif. to Salvation Army distribution centers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Georgia. Local relief efforts began Thursday, Sept. 8 with the fundraising telethon and continued on Monday, Sept. 12 with a weeklong donation drive. Donation drop centers, located at Valassis' three Michigan facilities, were open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. In addition to the pledged funds, Valassis Michigan employees donated three truckloads of dry goods including clothing, non-perishable food, bottled water, baby formula, paper goods and towels, personal hygiene products, first- aid supplies, cleaning supplies and blankets. Employee volunteers collected, sorted and loaded the donated items onto trucks provided by the Detroit Area Salvation Army.
