KODAK PDF Compare and PDF Merge Software Save Valuable Time for Commercial and Packaging Printers

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., September 9 – Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG) is demonstrating its award-winning technology, PDF Compare and PDF Merge software, the ADOBE ACROBAT plug-ins for the PRINERGY, PRINERGY POWERPACK and PRINERGY Evo workflow management systems, at the Print 05 exhibition at Chicago's McCormick Place, booth #6707. The tools provide an automated way for prepress operators to incorporate last-minute changes when preparing files for production, helping commercial and packaging printers save valuable time and money. Awarded a 2005 GATF InterTech Technology Award for innovation, PDF Compare and PDF Merge software provide an automated, reliable and cost-effective way to manage correction cycles in a prepress workflow. PDF Compare software is a quality-control tool that provides the ability to analyze two PDF files and identify the differences between them. PDF Merge software is a prepress production tool that allows the operator to extract all of the prior work that was done on the plate-ready file (traps, screening assignment, geometry, overprint settings, etc.) and merge all of those elements into a new revised production file. Commercial Printer Saves Time with PDF Compare Banta Publications Group of Liberty, Mo., provides printing and digital imaging solutions to leading magazine publishers. They are using PDF Compare software primarily for comparing original files to correction files, and have found it to be very effective in helping them deal with corrections from clients. “This tool is helping our prepress staff save time and be more efficient. Since our work is primarily magazine printing, it can be difficult to identify where changes have been made on a full page of text,” said Dan Kinney, Systems Administrator, Banta Publications Group. “In the past, we had to spend time examining two hard-copy proofs to find where changes were made. Now we open up PDF Compare software and compare the documents on-screen instantly.” Packaging Prepress House Handles Last-Minute Changes with Ease Memphis, Tenn.-based Cyber Graphics is the prepress division of Bryce Corporation, a successful flexible packaging converter serving companies such as Frito-Lay, Kraft Nabisco and Kellogg's. Cyber Graphics provides a full range of prepress services from color separation to production art to the final flexo plate. PDF Compare and PDF Merge software are helping Cyber Graphics quickly and efficiently handle late-breaking changes and manage different versions of the same package. “PDF Compare and PDF Merge have had the biggest impact in helping us manage last-minute changes — what used to take us 30-45 minutes, we can now turn around in 10-15,” said Kevin Bourquin, Technical Prepress Development Manager, Cyber Graphics. “If we have a job that comes back in and they've added a burst, or if we have different language versions of the same package, we can easily see what has changed and can quickly merge over all of the original traps, marks and screening.” PDF Compare and PDF Merge software are being demonstrated with PRINERGY, PRINERGY POWERPACK and PRINERGY Evo workflow systems at the Kodak booth #6707 at Print 05.
