Canon and Adobe Team to Bridge Paper and Digital Workflows

Press release from the issuing company

NEW YORK--Sept. 14, 2005-- Canon Inc. and Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced they are working together to develop paper-to-digital scanning, security and print solutions based on Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). The combination of Adobe LiveCycle and Adobe PDF technologies with Canon's imageRUNNER multi-function product (MFP) line and imageWARE software products will make it easier for information workers to integrate paper processes into more secure digital workflows. Organizations will be able to bridge the gap between the familiarity and prevalence of paper and the digital world of electronic business processes. "Canon is focused on improving productivity in the office," said Masaki Nakaoka, Chief Executive of Canon Inc. "With Adobe PDF and our imageRUNNER and imageWARE products, we are bringing together industry leading technologies to simplify creating digital workflows from traditionally paper-centric processes." "Workflows that connect people and business processes quickly and more securely are becoming a critical component of how well an enterprise or government agency can deliver services to its customers and constituents," said Bruce Chizen, Chief Executive Officer of Adobe. "By integrating Adobe LiveCycle services and Adobe PDF with Canon's imageRUNNER and imageWARE products, we're providing readily available solutions to make the paper-to-digital connection easy and cost effective." Components of Adobe LiveCycle provide Canon's imaging solutions with the underlying technologies to create and integrate intelligent documents with enterprise applications and business processes. Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms automates the extraction of data from printed paper forms using proven 2D barcode technology. Adobe PDF Scan Library enables embedded controllers, desktop or server applications to generate searchable, more secure, and compact PDF files from scanned paper documents. Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server enables organizations to apply policies to electronic documents for increased security and control. Adobe's PDF Printing Solutions integrate with Adobe PDF document workflows by enhancing printing with management and security capabilities.
