ORIS Color Server to Revolutionize Color Print Production, from Design through Delivery

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago (September 9, 2005) -- At the quadrennial Print 05 and Converting 05 event, CGS Publishing Technologies International introduced a powerful new approach to print production. ORIS Color Server is a systematic approach to the issues of color management and control throughout the process. Print buyers and agencies/designers have many new tools for saving time and money, while print service providers can use aspects of the ORIS workflow to significantly reduce production and delivery costs, and exploit new business opportunities. “By now, most prepress and printing companies have accepted the validity of inkjet proofing, which CGS pioneered,” said company president Trevor Haworth. “ORIS Color Server is a recognition that the industry needs to move beyond inkjet proofing, and use the same tools to optimize all aspects of color print production.” For print buyers and creatives, the ORIS Color Server workflow includes remote hard copy proofing, as well as collaborative, display-based annotation and revisions, using ORIS Soft Proof. Color control of interim “comp” devices, such as digital color copiers, can be achieved using ORIS Press Matcher. Prepress companies and printers have a wide array of workflow tools available, from ORIS Color Tuner, ORIS WebWorks and ORIS Certified Proof (to effectively handle proofing across multiple sites) to automation tools such as ORIS Press Matcher (for color-accurate output on wide format devices and digital presses) which often represent a significant new business opportunity. Of particular value to printers is ORIS Ink Saver, a system that applies GCR/UCR automatically to digital files during output, reducing ink consumption by up to 15%, and providing numerous other benefits. These include the ability to run on lighter paper, at higher speeds, without sacrificing color quality. Recent and proposed postal rate increases make the use of lighter paper especially beneficial.
