EDSF Scholarships Contribute To Future Of Document Communications Industry

Press release from the issuing company

TORRANCE, Calif., (Aug. 25, 2005) — The Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF), the non-profit organization dedicated to the document communications industry, is a primary source of future-affirming scholarships for students seeking careers in the document industry. Since 1999, when one scholarship was awarded, EDSF has provided scholarships to more than 125 full-time students majoring in computer science, graphic communications, information systems, advertising, media and graphic design, public relations and digital media studies. This year, EDSF will present 42 scholarship awards to highly qualified students seeking careers in these and other related disciplines. Student applications increased by 75 percent in 2005. “The intent of the EDSF scholarship program is to support students and benefit the industry,” said Jeanne Mowlds, EDSF Executive Director. “Well-educated EDSF scholarship recipients have gone on to careers with industry vendors and suppliers, including the Government Printing Office (GPO), Oracle, Microsoft, NBC, Johnson  & Johnson and a number of design firms. Fostering future document communications professionals is a win-win for all parties.” The scholarship program is funded by individuals and companies.Sponsors of the scholarship program enjoy a potentially symbiotic relationship with scholarship recipients who may enrich the world of document communications. Students gain both monetary and mentoring support necessary to succeed in their chosen field. EDSF provides monetary awards ranging from $500 to $3,500 to junior, senior, and graduate students attending four-year accredited colleges and students attending one- or two-year technical schools and community colleges. Though extremely important to the students, money is only one benefitof the EDSF scholarship program. The support and networking opportunities EDSF provides are key to students as they pursue their academic and professional careers. For example, EDSF informs students about intern and co-op opportunities and circulates job descriptions. Students can also post their job descriptions on the EDSF web site. “The EDSF scholarship program is a proven success,” said Mowlds. ”Weencourage established companies and leaders to lend support for this important effort. Where else can the document industry get the opportunity to select and shape its future professionals?”
