GLENS FALLS, NY (May 28, 2008) When a paper manufacturer has a certified professional forester as its COO, that's a good story.  But for Finch Paper LLC--maker of the Finch Paper line of uncoated printing papers -- it's just one chapter in a story of enduring environmental commitment.

The full story is now presented in a handsome new publication, "Where We Live," chronicling the Upstate New York mill's enduring, innovative and hands-on initiatives to protect the health of the forests, air and water on which its employees and neighbors depend.

The eye-catching, fact-filled publication is printed in outstanding color on Finch Fine, Ultra Smooth, Bright White text and cover paper. A companion brochure, "Finch Green Guide" lists the growing Finch roster of papers with post-consumer recycled content and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program certifications. The Finch Paper mill has been located in the City of Glens Falls, NY, on the banks of the Hudson River and at the edge of the famed Adirondack Mountains, for more than a century. The company was a leader in the development of professional, responsible forest management in the early years of the 20th century, and hired one of the nation's first professional foresters.  After caring for more than 160,000 acres of Adirondack forestland for generations, Finch Paper recently sold those lands to The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in a landmark environmental agreement through which Finch foresters continue to care for the lands on TNC's behalf.

In addition to its forestry commitment, Finch Paper has achieved environmental innovations throughout its fully integrated mill for pulp and papermaking. For example:

More than 66% of the energy used by the company is generated from on-site, renewable, non-fossil fuel sources.

Finch uses an average of three million pounds of post-consumer recycled fiber annually.

Finch captures greenhouse gasses and re-uses them to make precipitated calcium carbonate, a brightening agent in the papers.

More than 75% of the pulp used to make Finch Papers is produced on-site in an elemental-chlorine free process.
