Kodak Honored With Three GATF InterTech Technology Awards

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Aug. 2, 2005-- Eastman Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG) today announced that its technologies have been awarded three 2005 GATF InterTech Technology Awards from PIA/GATF. Kodak's three award-winning products provide graphic communications professionals with digital workflow, color management and output solutions that increase production efficiency and image quality from capture to output. The GATF InterTech Technology Awards are presented by PIA/GATF, the world's largest graphic arts industry trade association. Established in 1978, these awards recognize excellence in innovative technology for the graphic communications industry. Since that time, the companies comprising Kodak's Graphic Communications Group have introduced products that have won 26 GATF InterTech Technology Awards. "Today customers want the convenience and efficiency of a full range of proven, integrated digital technologies--in this case, workflow, color management and digital printing--from a single provider," said Jeff Jacobson, President, Graphic Solutions & Services and Chief Operating Officer, Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG). "We're excited that the InterTech judges recognize the innovative ways each of these products enable customers to achieve greater productivity and quality throughout the production process. These awards are a real testament to the impact of Kodak's successful and innovative technologies." KODAK NEXPRESS Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions KODAK NEXPRESS fifth imaging unit solutions earned a 2005 InterTech Technology Award for the new capabilities of protective coating, appearance-enhancing high-gloss, color gamut expansion and improved PANTONE color matching capabilities added to the NEXPRESS digital production color presses. With outstanding capabilities of convenience and speed, as well as numerous creative applications, the versatile KODAK NEXPRESS fifth imaging unit solutions expand a digital printer's service offerings, including a wider spectrum of jobs, while maintaining a cost-effective, streamlined workflow. The fifth imaging unit solutions support three high-value workflows, including: KODAK NEXPRESS intelligent color solution, which adds a fifth color of dry ink--red, green, or blue--to a standard four-color process printed piece to deliver an 80 percent richer color gamut than can be achieved with standard four-color process printing, providing better PANTONE color matching capability and enhanced spot color reproduction; KODAK NEXPRESS intelligent coating solution that automatically applies a clear dry ink coating to a printed piece, providing greater image protection from smears, smudges and scratches, as well as improved security through watermarking; and KODAK NEXPRESS intelligent glossing solution that applies a clear ink coating to the entire page, which is then heated and smoothed in the KODAK NEXGLOSSER glossing unit, to produce striking printed pieces with a high-gloss surface for greater marketing impact. KODAK COLORFLOW Custom Color Tools V3.1 KODAK COLORFLOW Custom Color Tools V3.1 earned a 2005 InterTech Technology Award for the value it delivers to color management experts, enabling them to optimize the color performance of each component device in the end-to-end workflow system. The software delivers maximum color management capability when combined with other proofing, digital color printing and workflow products. Using KODAK COLORFLOW Custom Color Tools V3.1, users can easily edit and create profiles based on International Color Consortium (ICC) standards to facilitate color matching across an extensive variety of input, display and output devices, enabling true ICC color management. The software operates as a set of ADOBE PHOTOSHOP plug-ins, allowing profiles to be edited as easily as color correcting an image with the ADOBE PHOTOSHOP Image Adjust tools. With KODAK COLORFLOW Custom Tools V3.1, users can deliver outstanding image quality through the digital workflow and meet the output requirements of their customers while improving turnaround time and increasing profitability of their operations. PDF Compare and PDF Merge PDF Compare and PDF Merge are ADOBE ACROBAT plug-ins for the KODAK PRINERGY and PRINERGY POWERPACK workflow management systems. These tools provide an automated, reliable and cost-effective way to manage correction cycles in a prepress workflow. PDF Compare is a quality control tool that provides the ability to analyze two PDF files and identify the differences between them. PDF Merge is a prepress production tool that allows the operator to extract all of the prior work that was done on the plate-ready file (traps, screening assignment, geometry, overprint settings, etc.) and merge all of those elements into a new revised production file. Together, PDF Compare and PDF Merge provide an automated way for prepress operators to incorporate last-minute changes when preparing files for production. These tools give the operator the ability to change graphic elements in a master design file, save that file as a revision and extract all of the re-usable production settings from the original plate-ready file. The result is a revised design file that is ready for production -- in a much shorter period of time.
