Tensor Expands Press At Skive-Folkeblad Garantselskebat, Denmark

Press release from the issuing company

WOODRIDGE, IL (July 1, 2005) – Tensor Group, Inc., a premier U.S. manufacturer of web offset press equipment, has installed an additional T-400BE 4-high tower and jaw folder at Skive Folkeblad Garantselskebat in Skive, Denmark. Skive Folkeblad has long been considered one of the highest quality printers in the Scandinavian marketplace. Its long history began almost 125 years ago with production of a small newspaper and has evolved into a major producer of newspaper and commercial products, employing approximately 150 people. The new shaftless units expand Skive Folkeblad’s original Tensor press, installed in 1999, to a total of six towers and two H-50 jaw folders. The press is fully automatic and is equipped with the newest technology in register and cut-off controls. “Increasing deadline demands and the need for online finishing drove the expansion,” said John Vejle, production manager of Skive Folkeblad. “We also achieve greater flexibility and efficiency of the staff with the automated features of the press.” An important consideration in planning the expansion was to maintain the same ease-of-use and profitability factor as the existing Tensor T-1400 series press. The upgrade to the Tensor full-bearer T-400BE tower fulfilled those expectations, while adding product output capabilities. Together with daily production, the Tensor press produces many diverse jobs in numerous formats, paper stocks and circulations, and runs 12 hours each day. “The press has been operating for ten months now and we are confident we made the right decision by expanding our Tensor press,” said Vejle. “We have new customers and job types coming in all the time and we are now able to compete down to delivery in 24 hours on some jobs. Because of this investment, we have moved into other markets in Norway and Sweden.” The T-400BE tower is equipped with bearers on the blanket and plate cylinders, a completely helical gear train and Tensor’s motorization package. The system is further enhanced with an EPG remote inking system, Inventor Graphics SprayMatic spray dampening and a QI register control system. A conveying system with two pick up stations and a stacker for the new H-50 folder were also added to the pressline. The H-50 heavy-duty jaw folder is equipped with Tensor’s newly designed 40K commercial quarter folder and a stitcher. The design of this quarter folder allows operation at a speed of 40,000 iph, providing extremely high quality fold accuracy on a wide variety of paper stocks, including the difficult SCA and SCB lightweight stocks. It has proven to be beneficial for both commercial and insert printers that require consistent fold accuracy as well as high productivity. Skive Folkeblad, celebrating its 125th anniversary in October of 2005, outputs a minimum of 500,000 copies of approximately 50 different products every week. Skive Folkeblad has a daily circulation of approximately 14,000, 6 days a week. Production continuously switches from tabloid to broadsheet newspapers to magazines, using paper stock of 40 Gr to 90 Gr offset. The facility specializes in large runs with high page counts, all trimmed online. Skive Folkeblad offers a wide variety of on-line gluing and trimming finishes. Tensor Group, Inc. is a privately held manufacturer of single width web offset press equipment for commercial, insert and newspaper markets worldwide. Over 1600 units have been successfully installed in more than 23 countries since its inception in 1993.
