Wind Mills Power Strathmore Writing System

Press release from the issuing company

[Cohoes, NY] – Mohawk Paper Mills announced that the entire Strathmore Writing System is now manufactured with wind power. The Strathmore Writing System is a comprehensive system of writing, text and cover papers designed specifically for corporate identity systems. The Strathmore Writing System includes Strathmore Writing, the #1 selling 25% cotton fiber paper in the U.S. Applications for these papers include executive and corporate stationery, business cards, envelopes and other components of identity programs. This announcement follows Mohawk’s acquisition of the Fine Papers business from International Papers last month. The Strathmore franchise, including the Strathmore Writing System, was an important part of the purchase. The Strathmore Writing System is manufactured at the non-polluting Beckett Mill in Hamilton, Ohio. On June 1, Mohawk began purchasing an additional 35 million kWh of wind power annually for the Beckett Mill. This commitment to wind energy allows Mohawk to join the highest level EPA Green Power Partnership Leadership Club. Mohawk’s mills are the only paper mills in the U.S. to use wind energy to manufacture paper. The Strathmore Writing System is now an important component of Mohawk’s Wind Power Portfolio of Papers. The first grades in this portfolio were Mohawk Options 100% PCW and Mohawk Color Copy 100% Recycled. “This move is significant for Corporate America,” according to Thomas D. O’Connor, Jr., Mohawk’s Chairman and CEO. “Many of our corporate customers are seeking ways to minimize impacts on the environment as well as to find ways to highlight their contributions as socially responsible organizations. Selection of the Strathmore Writing System, and other papers in the Mohawk Wind Power Portfolio, enable them to do that.” Mohawk Wind Power Portfolio customers include General Electric, FedEx/Kinkos and BP Oil.
