Among many applications, the Jaws RIP is integrated into the ColorBurst RIP; Onyx’s RIPCenter, Postershop and ProductionHouse products; and, GMG’s ColorProof, DotProof, and FlexoProof. The Jaws RIP is a kernel interpreter supplied as a software development kit, and with a highly developed Application Programming Interface (API), around which software developers can wrap layers of functionality to create custom solutions for their market segments. Its small footprint and flexibility make it ideal for embedding into software applications. New features introduced from today include: PDF 1.5 compatibility: the new release of the Jaws RIP provides support for PDF 1.5 interpretation including: rendering 16-bit images for accurate color; JPEG2000 for improved image compression; support for multiple encryptions, and Optional Content and additional Unicode CMaps. The new release maintains its predecessors’ ability to process PDF files natively without the need to convert to PostScript first, resulting in fast and accurate rendering. 16-bit rendering for improved color handling: the Jaws RIP is designed to allow OEMs to use third-party add-on technology that best fits their products and markets. This includes choice of color management modules. The new release extends existing functionality within Jaws that allows OEMs to better handle CIE-Based images and other colors. This, combined with support for 16bit image interpretation and rendering, enables OEMs to improve their color management solutions in order to achieve greater levels of color fidelity, a critical requirement for the wide format inkjet market.’ The PostScript Language Level 3 compatible Jaws interpreter is designed to run on a wide variety of different platforms and operating systems. Developers get full access to the graphics pipeline via the unique Jaws "device class interface" and can implement a wide variety for features such as custom screening, image enhancement algorithms and color management. The "example Jaws device drivers" provide the interface between the rasterizer and the output device, be it an interface card, disk file or printer controller.
