Integrated Color Solutions awarded patent for development of remote proofing system

Press release from the issuing company

New York, NY; June 6, 2005 – Integrated Color Solutions (ICS) — the technology leader in monitor proofing — has been granted a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its development of the technology used in Remote Director, the company’s industry-leading, remote proofing system. ICS received U.S. patent number 6,707,931 for its press proofing system that allows multiple Users in remote locations to view and collaborate on press proofs without having to leave their offices. ICS’s system allows Users to view color correct press proofs, make changes, correct colors, change content and provide final approval for printing - all from the convenience of the User’s office. Each User is shown an electronic image that is color corrected to display the image as it would appear when printed thereby providing for a digital proof of the printing press without the need to actually print the proof sheet. ICS’ technology eliminates the need for multiple physical proofs, records each iteration of changes, and allows video and audio conference between the printer and the User. ICS’s technology generates savings for our client’s in time, travel and costs while significantly increasing the convenience of printing press proofing by eliminating the need for physical travel simply to view a proof. “This U.S. patent establishes ICS as the leader in remote proofing and we’re very proud of the fact that our team is able to bring this technology to the graphic arts industry,” said Jeffrey Silverman, president and CEO of Integrated Color Solutions. “With Remote Director, we’ve changed the way the industry looks at proofing and, in doing so, we’re helping organizations improve their workflow process and become more efficient.” The technology was developed and patented by Franz Herbert, ICS’ chief technical officer and vice president of research and development. He has been developing state-of-the-art software solutions for the past 20 years and, in 1994, he co-founded Color Solutions, Inc., bringing color management tools to designers and printers around the world. Remote Director applies advanced color management to verify the accuracy of every monitor and every proof and is the first SWOP Certified monitor-based contract proofing system in the graphic communications industry. It is unique in that it runs on commercially available hardware and uses software that can be downloaded free of charge. While printers and designers have embraced new technologies to create their work, the color proofing process has remained dated, expensive and time consuming. Remote Director is has changed all of that, and offers users a new, inexpensive and more efficient way to do business. What used to take days can now be done in just hours. “At ICS, our goal is to develop and introduce new products and services that not only protect the integrity of color design, but also to help our customers work smarter,” adds Herbert. “The development of this technology, and the recognition from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, signifies that we’re doing just that.”
