Goss gains major multi-site order for Hurriyet, Turkey

Press release from the issuing company

May 19th, 2005 - Hürriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik A.S., a subsidiary of Doðan Yayin Holding of Istanbul, Turkey, is making a major investment to increase color capacity and flexibility at three of its key printing sites. Equipment ordered includes 15 Goss Universal four-high towers (60 printing units) and one Goss Community four-high tower. Hürriyet has been a leader in the Turkish newspaper market since 1948 and continues to be so, enjoying a 41% market share of Turkish newspaper advertising today. The company has over 350 Goss brand press units installed before this latest expansion project. Mr. Hamil Alniacik, General Manger of Doðan Printing Centers, comments on the order, “Color quality is one of our driving forces; the new press equipment will dramatically boost our color capabilities and significantly increase the production speed, in turn reducing delivery times. “At our Doðan Printing Centers we produce an incredible array of newspapers and commercial titles. This means we need versatile and reliable units to keep up with the growing business. Fast job changeovers and short make-ready times make our production schedule possible, without losing our edge on the latest news,” he confirms. This latest expansion project involves phased installations across the facilities: Phase one – Trabzon - One sixteen-cylinder Goss Community, four-high tower to be installed to the existing Goss Community press. Featuring 560mm cut-off and 889mm web width, installation and press commissioning is scheduled to be completed by August 2005. Phase two – Ankara - Large press extension of Goss Universal 45 press. In Ankara, Goss will be installing an additional seven four-high towers, Turner bars and six reelstands. Formulating the existing three presses into a four folder operation. These four highs will be configured with a 560mm cut-off, and features Goss Level 2 press controls. Six of the towers will print 4x4 color and one will be dedicated for printing single color webs. These will be installed and commissioned by end of March 2006 and when completed will be one of the longest press lines in the world at over 104 metres/341 feet long. Phase three - The Hürriyet facility at Izmir will take delivery of an additional eight four-high towers, two two-high towers and eight reelstands. With the same web width, cut-off and press controls as those at Ankara, the new towers for Izmir are scheduled for commissioning by the end of June 2006. Peter Selby, Sales Director, Goss International says, “Key to our success with Hürriyet is the strong relationship built up over many years between Medya Makina our local agent in Turkey and the parent company of Hurriyet, Doðan Yayin Holding. This relationship has been achieved through consistent hard work and professionalism in tackling all issues involved in the sale, installation and maintenance. We are very pleased to be chosen to supply press equipment to one of the leading newspaper organizations in the world.” Doðan Yayin Holding has printing centers strategically placed in six major cities in Turkey. The total circulation of the group's titles can reach up to 3,200,000 copies on the weekend alone.
