Xerox Adds New Digital Color Press to Its High-Volume Printing Portfolio

Press release from the issuing company

PHILADELPHIA--May 17, 2005-- Xerox Corporation is strengthening the industry's largest and most successful digital color printing portfolio with the new Xerox DocuColor 7000 Digital Press, which gives Xerox customers an option in the 70-page-per-minute speed segment. The company also has enhanced its flagship Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Press with an in-line coater that can improve the appearance and durability of menus, book covers and other documents. The Xerox DocuColor 7000 Digital Press is ideal for customers entering the digital color market or those looking to increase productivity, reliability and image quality compared to competitive offerings. The new press extends Xerox's line of high-end production color products that operate between 45 ppm and 110 ppm. Xerox has sold more than 12,000 production DocuColor systems since their introduction in 2000, surpassing all competitors and making the Xerox production color line the most widely used in the industry. "The DocuColor 7000 and the depth of Xerox's entire digital color portfolio let us serve a range of customers and stay with them as their business and print volume grows," said Quincy Allen, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. "Xerox's digital color family offers customers the right technology and the right workflow for both their budget and job requirements." The DocuColor 7000 features 2400 x 2400 x 1 dpi resolution, meeting the image quality needs of even the most discriminating print professionals. The press also handles a variety of paper sizes and types so it can support a wide range of applications and environments, such as print-on-demand, Web-submission print processes, book publishing and personalized marketing. By offering three color server options -- the workstations that process incoming print files and drive the digital press -- the DocuColor 7000 easily integrates into customers' existing workflow. Print providers can choose the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) DocuSP controller or a color server from Creo or EFI. Xerox Enhances iGen3 Press The Epic Cti-635, from Epic International, is a new in-line coater attached to the Xerox iGen3 110 Digital Production Press that gives documents a glossy or matte finish, improving their overall appearance and durability. The coating helps preserve and protect documents such as postcards, menus, book covers, manuals and packaging. Unlike competitive offerings, the Xerox coater is in-line. It allows customers to maintain an all-digital workflow, ushering documents through each stage of the printing process. When documents exit the iGen3 press, they are coated, treated with ultra-violet light and deposited in a bin. "By offering the UV coating process in-line, Xerox has developed a way for its customers to add value to the documents they produce while maintaining maximum productivity," said Steven Schnoll, managing director of Schnoll Media Consulting. The entire process is automated, which helps print professionals get more print jobs done quickly. The Xerox in-line coater also operates as fast as the iGen3 press, which is 110 8.5'' x 11'' pages per minute. Coating systems for competitors' presses may run at half that speed and require off-line processes, dramatically reducing customer productivity. Pricing and Availability The DocuColor 7000 Digital Press is available June 1 in North America, Europe and developing markets for a list price of $245,000, including a color server. The press is sold through the Xerox direct sales force, resellers, agents and concessionaires. The in-line coater will be available in limited quantities in North America and Europe in the third quarter.
