Transcontinental Uses NAPL Data in Planning Sessions

Press release from the issuing company

PARAMUS, N.J., MAY 3, 2005 – The Marketing Products Printing Sector of Transcontinental Inc., North America’s seventh largest printer and Canada’s fourth largest print media group, used key findings from the Printing Economic Research Center (PERC) of the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) as an important resource at its senior management planning session, held on April 20, 2005, in Toronto, Ontario. NAPL President and Chief Executive Office Joseph P. Truncale presented the research, including findings from the 2004-2005 NAPL State of the Industry Report, in a presentation titled, “The Changing Face of Our Business: Opportunity or Threat?” Truncale told the group of 40 executives that “although business has improved and we’re finally seeing a sustained economic turnaround, not all printing companies will participate in that recovery. Only those companies who strategically position themselves for growth will be able to take advantage of the historic opportunities presented by today’s dynamic business environment.” Following the presentation, Truncale facilitated a strategic exercise in which some members of Transcontinental’s Marketing Products Printing Sector’s management team drew on the findings of NAPL research to address critical issues facing the industry. “Transcontinental’s Marketing Products Printing Sector is doing what all graphic communications companies need to do in today’s changing and demanding business environment—wrestle with the issues challenging the industry and come up with effective strategies to position themselves as viable, strong competitors,” said NAPL’s Truncale. “We’re pleased that NAPL’s economic research played a role in supporting that effort.” “The insights we gained from NAPL’s economic research were extremely useful to us and helped guide our senior management strategy sessions,” noted Guy Manuel, president of Transcontinental’s Marketing Products Printing Sector. “The information helped us focus on the business dynamics that are transforming our industry and what our company must do to position itself successfully going forward.” Graphic communications companies seeking information on how NAPL’s economic research can help support their strategic management efforts are invited to call Joseph Truncale at (800) 642-6275, ext. 1310, or Andrew Paparozzi, NAPL vice president and chief economist, at (800) 642-6275, ext. 1352, or [email protected].
