It Pays to Be Green at DCG

Press release from the issuing company

Indianapolis - April 24, 2008 -- The gas company may not know why DCG: Digital Color Graphics' gas bill is down, but Chris Hutson, President of DCG does.  "It's all about being green," said Hutson.

The heating bill has been reduced nearly 30%, wholly through a concentration on going green.  When the average heating price increased across the board, up to 22% in some cases (according to the CNBC website), a 30% savings is more than significant.

Last summer, DCG rerouted ventilation through its warehouse, office and production floor areas to recycle heat given off by their Digital Production Press (a Xerox iGen3).  "I believe we are still the only iGen user to be re-cycling heat in the area, possibly in the country," said Hutson.  "But others are starting to catch on."

The 17,000 sq. ft. location, just off the Airport Expressway, required a few other simple upgrades to create these savings.  Exhaust units were sealed, internal humidity control was upgraded, and new thermostats were installed and programmed to contribute to the significant savings.

"It feels good to be working for a company who is making such green efforts," said Helen Seidel, 5-year employee at DCG.  "Every week, we are coming up with new ways to leave less of an environmental impact."

Other efforts at DCG include using Eco-Solvent ink, recycling, re-using refuse materials, and reducing other printing waste products through our all-digital printing system.

"There is still a targeted list for further improvements," said Hutson.  Some of these improvements include a paperless job flow system, window seal improvements, water heater insulation, and improved wall insulation.  DCG is also organizing a carpool for its employees.

DCG is an inaugural member of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Green Business Initiative.
