TAPPI Announces Troubleshooting Print Defects Virtual Seminar Series

ATLANTA--April 29, 2005-- TAPPI introduces Troubleshooting Print Defects, a new multi-part virtual seminar series developed by industry expert Nancy Plowman. Starting with foundation knowledge and moving through testing and troubleshooting techniques, this training helps address and tackle print defects. The series kicks off with Introduction to the Printing Process on May 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. U.S. EST. Once participants have completed this session, they will be able to identify the different printing processes, their mechanics and the demands of the inks and printing substrates. Other upcoming sessions include: -- The Color Story, June 8 -- Printing Plates and Screen Techniques, June 22 -- The Offset Printing Unit: Ink, Fountain Solution and Blankets, July 6 -- Inks, July 20 -- Additional sessions will be added throughout the year. These programs are appropriate for mill and plant managers, operations managers, engineers, researchers, lab managers and technical managers at paper mills; and customer service, sales, technical managers and printers from industry suppliers. With TAPPI virtual seminars, companies and individuals can determine which sessions to bring to their sites, and then decide who attends. Once a session is selected, attendance is unlimited. This flexible format allows each site to customize the learning experience based on their specific needs. Each hour-long session is presented live via telephone and computer. Participants will receive materials in advance and simply need to arrange for a speakerphone and Internet connection. Each site has the opportunity to participate and interact with the instructor. Ms. Plowman is president of Nancy Plowman Associates, Inc., Burlington Mass., (NPA) and Graphic Arts Testing Equipment, Inc. (GATE), Winchester, Mass. Incorporated in 1986, NPA is a graphic arts testing and consulting service specializing in handling print production related problem, including analysis of all components of the offset printing process. Examples of these include inks, papers, aqueous and UV coatings, adhesives, fountain solutions, blankets and chemical additives to the printing system. Ms. Plowman has published more than 50 articles in industry magazines and technical journals. She has presented papers at TAPPI technical conferences, taught several TAPPI short courses and is an active member of TAPPI and other local printing organizations.
