RIPit's New CTP & OpenRIP Symphony Workflow Showing at Gutenberg Festival & Northprint

Press release from the issuing company

April 28, 2005 – LOS ANGELES – RIPit Computer Corp., the primary workflow and CTP provider to the majority of quick printers and franchises in North America, is showing its newest and most popular solutions at this month’s Gutenberg Festival in Los Angeles, and Northprint Expo in Harrogate, UK. The hottest product, according to RIPit president Wayne Wasulko, is the company’s SpeedSetter VM CTP. Introduced at Graph Expo 2004 and showing at both Gutenberg and Northprint, the 2-up VM (Violet Metal) System is being met with praise by beta site customers in both Europe and the U.S. The SpeedSetter VM offers RIPit’s industry-standard drum quality in a compact, easy-to-use, and reliable package; and comes standard with RIPit’s OpenRIP Symphony Workflow with Adobe PostScript 3. The OpenRIP Symphony Workflow utilizes RIPit’s award-winning, core OpenRIP technology. Staten Island Shop Producing “Print-Perfect” Plates with SpeedSetter VM Jim Glover, president of Westerleigh Press in Staten Island, N.Y., says that his full-service commercial print shop was able to produce “print-perfect metal CTP plates from day one” and hasn’t stopped since. Since installing the system in March 2005, and with no prior CTP experience, Westerleigh has produced over 800 plates and reduced production time by 2-1/2 hours a day. In fact, Glover says he didn’t anticipate getting to 700 plates per month until May, and he’s exceeded that expectation in just a little over a month. “Typically, printers expect to pay top dollar in order to get high quality CTP,” says Wasulko. “That’s not the case for RIPit customers. They have to have affordability without compromising quality. In the SpeedSetter VM the R&D teams from RIPit and partner Exxtra have achieved the RIPit mandate for highest quality at lowest possible cost.” Truly Open System Controls Hundreds of Devices from a Single Interface In addition to controlling close to one-hundred imagesetters, platesetters, printers, and plotters natively, OpenRIP Symphony can also control a wide range of PostScript and TIFF-in devices from a single interface. RIPit’s core OpenRIP technology set the standard for a flexible, straightforward prepress workflow; and Symphony extends it to copier, printer, and out-of-shop work, as well. Multi-Task, Multi-Device PostScript RIP Integrates All Production Steps for Any PS Output OpenRIP Symphony’s PostScript 3 interpreter (CPSI 3016) provides the highest level of compatibility with modern graphics applications. It integrates scanning, trapping, proofing, and imposition into a single powerful package, and processes all for output on any device that can accept PostScript, TIFF or GDI files. “RIPit is proud to be the company making digital, metal CTP technology affordable for mainstream commercial and quick printers,” says Wasulko. “With the new SpeedSetter VM and the OpenRIP Symphony Workflow software, the marketplace gets economically viable access to a complete, turnkey platemaking system.
