At OnDemand, Muller Martini to showcase their SigmaLine Concept to donate books to children

Press release from the issuing company

Hauppauge, New York – It’s a win-win situation. Visitors to the ”Books for Kids” booth (#3801) at this year’s OnDemand Digital Printing & Publishing show will be able to see first-hand how professionally bound books can be created quickly and economically in one pass through a fully-integrated book production system. Plus, local children will also benefit, because the books that are created on the show floor will be donated to Philadelphia-area schools. Throughout the show, Muller Martini , partnering with Oce, Lasermax Roll Systems, MBO, Palamides, and Weyerhauser Paper will produce up to 10,000 books at the exhibit in the Books for Kids Pavilion. Show attendees can see the speed, productivity and business opportunities for Book-On-Demand production right before their eyes, as blank rolls of paper are fed into one end of a digital OnDemand system and completely finished bound books come out the other end. Featured at the show will be components of Muller Martini’s SigmaLine OnDemand platform. “Muller Martini is proud to be able to contribute our time, resources and the capabilities of our OnDemand Solutions to provide local children with books that can become a vital part of their learning and development,” said Werner Naegeli, President and CEO of Muller Martini Corp. “At the same time, we are pleased to offer printing companies, in-plant operations, publishers, in-house corporate printing functions, and binderies a demonstration of what OnDemand production could mean to the productivity and growth of their businesses.” Included in the all-in-line system that will be used on the show floor to create the 10,000 books will be the Muller Martini SigmaBinder, which can produce perfect bound books at up to 1,000 fully variable-sized copies per hour. A built in measuring station utilizes laser technology to acquire the dimensions of the in-coming book block. The electronic book size data is used to adjust the length, width and thickness settings of the binder. The result – the machine literally makereadies itself. Also part of the system at the show will be the SigmaTower, which ensures proper cooling of perfect bound books and optimal curing of adhesives, as well as the Muller Esprit Three-Knife Trimmer, the ideal complement for perfect binding systems. Esprit boasts automated makeready to reduce changeover times and to help lower costs in short runs. Besides SigmaBinder and SigmaTower mentioned above, the innovative Muller Martini SigmaLine concept of modular OnDemand components also includes: SigmaPress to provide continuous-feed printing of each job in a single pass; SigmaFolder to produce from 4- to 16-page folded signatures with extremely high accuracy; SigmaCollator to gather folded signatures and instantly deliver them to the SigmaBinder perfect binder for finishing; SigmaStitcher to produce up to 6,000 saddle-stitched products per hour with the short set-up efficiency of automatic makeready (AMRYS); and SigmaControl which utilizes a JDF interface to combine and coordinate all functions of the SigmaLine printing and binding process, including job reporting, product tracking and management information that provides critical job status updates while allowing for automated format and job changes. SigmaLine is completely scaleable, with several complementing technologies that offer a wide assortment of options. You could, for example, install just a SigmaBinder in a near-line configuration, then add a SigmaTower as your production increases. Or, you can create a totally integrated end-to-end solution where digital files and paper go in one end...and printed, bound product comes out the other. The choice is yours, and that's the beauty of SigmaLine, giving you the flexibility you need - how and when you need it, as your business grows. Visitors to the OnDemand Digital Printing & Publishing 2005 show are urged to stop by booth #3801 in the Books for Kids Pavilion – where they can see the very latest digital OnDemand technology up and running, actually producing thousands of superior quality books. Muller Martini finishing solution experts will be continually available to discuss with show attendees the many possibilities that SigmaLine can provide. The show runs May 17-19 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
