Agfa Monotype And Oce Announce Color Technology Agreement

Press release from the issuing company

Colortune Tools From Agfa Monotype To Be Used In Oce High-Volume Printing Products. Wilmington, Massachusetts and Poing, Germany, December 21, 2001 - Agfa Monotype Corporation, a worldwide developer of color and font technologies, and Oce N.V., a major supplier of professional document systems, today announced that Oce has entered into a worldwide agreement to license ColorTune OEM color and screening technology from Agfa Monotype. The technology will allow Oce to effectively expand its color offerings in high-volume printing products. "The agreement broadens our already strong relationship with Oce, a dynamic company with exceptional products and a clear focus on the printer and copier markets," said Robert M. Givens, president of Agfa Monotype. "Oce has been a long-time customer of our font technology. We're pleased to be working together again on this new opportunity that allows us to provide color and screening technology to meet the particular needs of Oce customers." "At Oce, future high-volume printing developments will concentrate on full color, spot color and the improvement of greyscale reproduction," said Peter Feldweg, CEO of Oce. "Agfa is one of the leading companies in the field of color imaging and holds numerous patents in this area. We wish to benefit from this experience within our controller products in color and monochrome printing systems." Agfa Monotype's ColorTune tool kits have been developed to answer the growing need for OEMs to produce high-quality, color-enabled devices as rapidly as possible-within the OEM's own lab environment. Two kits are available: the ColorTune Color Tool Kit and the ColorTune Screening Tool Kit. Each kit is based on technologies patented by Agfa. Developed for Microsoft Windows environments, the ColorTune Screening Tool Kit contains simple tools that allow engineers to design halftone screens without constraints on angles or frequencies. High-quality screens can be created for binary, multilevel and asymmetrical resolutions. The ColorTune Color Tool Kit, available for both Windows and Macintosh platforms, contains software to create, edit, preview and optimize manufacturer color device profiles. Source code is also included in the color kit for Agfa Monotype's CMS (Color Management System) and CMM (Color Management Module), which allows for color transformations between standard color spaces. Additional ColorTune Products and Services. In addition to the kits, Agfa Monotype offers two application suites for end-users of OEMs. ColorTune MatchUp, an easy-to-use application that ensures the "color match" between a printer and TWAIN-compliant scanner, allows for the reproduction of images that most closely match their originals. ColorTune Adjust, an application for modifying ICC-compliant color profiles, allows end-users to maintain consistent and accurate color, even when media, ink, toner or environmental changes occur in the production environment. Agfa Monotype also works one-on-one with OEMs to generate ICC profiles and halftone screens that are unique to particular devices.
