EFI Debuts New Version of PrinterSite Exchange at Connect

Press release from the issuing company

Miami – June 13, 2005 – EFI, the world leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, debuted the latest version of its PrinterSite Exchange web submission application at the sixth annual Connect users' conference, the printing industry's largest user conference taking place through June 15th. EFI PrinterSite Exchange provides a complete, streamlined workflow from the document creator, through the print production environment, to finishing and delivery. By providing a robust, personalized interactive Internet presence 24 hours per day, PrinterSite Exchange enhances customer relationships and improves profitability. EFI PrinterSite Exchange makes it easy for printing companies to deploy branded storefront web sites that let them do business with customers over the Internet. Version 2.5 of PrinterSite Exchange includes new Remote Print Center workflow integration, JDF-based job tickets and visual job ticket wizards, stronger VDP capabilities, and enhanced PrintMessenger Drivers. The application provides an easier way for customers to submit jobs, request quotes, obtain real time prices automatically, submit and proof content, and actually buy their job online through PrinterSite Exchange's e-commerce capabilities. The site offers self service features that let customers check their own job status, while still giving customer service representatives and sales people visibility into customer's order flow and job status. Benefits for the printing company include dramatically streamlined estimating and order-input for digital and offset work, as well as cost-savings that can be recognized by reducing or eliminating prepress labor through the application's end-to-end PDF workflow. EFI is demonstrating PrinterSite Exchange integration with the Logic Print MIS system at its Connect user conference this week, and it will be generally available in upcoming versions of the Hagen, Logic and PSI print management systems. “With the introduction of PrinterSite Exchange 2.5, we're really introducing a new standard for web-to-print applications,” said Chuck Gehman, EFI Director of Product Marketing. “This is really the first offering that can support the full range of products that printers want to offer to customers online. Whether they are direct mail VDP jobs, business cards and stationery, binders with multiple sections and customized tabs, financial documents like pitch books or prospectus, PrinterSite Exchange 2.5 is the first generally available and easy-to-deploy application that can answer these challenges.” “PrinterSite Exchange is a great complement to our growing digital services portfolio,” said Dean Hanisko, CTO of Great Lakes Integrated. “With this application, customers are able to communicate their job intent in a way that optimizes their interaction with us, with less knowledge of the print process, but still providing us with the information we need to produce the job.” PrinterSite Exchange provides a powerful integration with EFI's workflow and MIS solutions – the system creates an “end-to-end” content and commerce workflow from the desktop of the printer's customer directly to EFI Fiery, Balance and Micropress solutions for digital printing and to EFI's Hagen, Logic and PSI systems. First time job submission is simplified for both the printer and customer, with jobs submitted as settings-correct PDFs. The online catalog in PrinterSite Exchange makes frequently used documents easily accessible for ordering. Customers can see the status of their orders – when placed, when in production and when shipped – without playing telephone tag. PrinterSite Exchange 2.5 has several new key features: Remote Print Center The new Remote Print Center module provides direct integration at the printing site with workflow solutions, like Fiery, Balance and Micropress. It provides all the benefits of PrinterSite Exchange's managed ASP Internet delivery solution, while still having files available locally for output. It also provides the ability to support multiple printing sites, and “move” jobs from one to another, for load balancing or for redundancy in the event of equipment failure at one site. JDF-based Job Tickets PrinterSite Exchange's revolutionary new JDF-based job ticketing and visual job ticket wizards allow customers to easily specify even very complex job intent, by walking them through the process in a user-friendly way. Pre-defined tickets can now be deployed as product choices, with graphics that help the user decide which ticket is most appropriate for the job they wish to produce. Tickets can also be pre-filled, with default choices, so customers can more quickly define the finished product they wish to have produced. The all-new ticketing architecture lays the groundwork for future innovations in JDF integration with EFI MIS, output and workflow applications, as well as with third-party applications. New Catalog and VDP Capabilities The PrinterSite Exchange 2.5 Catalog offers new support for non-print items, such as advertising specialties or corporate logo merchandise, along with documents for print-on-demand applications. An enhanced Template Driven VDP Documents Module provides a complete batch merge capability for more sophisticated 1:1 marketing products like direct mail pieces and newsletters, when combined with the optional new Workstation or Server Merge Modules. Customers can now upload their own database files to produce personalized documents. Upcoming versions of PrinterSite Exchange will also offer the ability for users to purchase databases from list providers, via an alliance with USADATA (see today's announcement with headline: EFI and USADATA Form Alliance to Integrate Prospect Databases into Web-to-Print Software Applications). The new VDP features include advanced capabilities such as the ability to choose images, as well as to upload images on the fly at order-time, pre-fill templates from user profiles, and pre-fill templates from database files with the ability to preview results in a standard browser with no plug-ins or applets. Users can also preview selected records online, or step through the entire database previewing each record against the template document. Updated PrintMessenger Drivers The unlimited license PrintMessenger PDF generating drivers included standard with PrinterSite Exchange have been one of its most popular features. The latest release of PrintMessenger has an enhanced interface that gives users more feedback during the PDF conversion and file upload process. And there is now the ability to send multiple files to the PrinterSite Exchange server in one easy workflow. The files can be printed from multiple applications, and can even be combined into a single job file for ticketing and output. Availability Version 2.5 is scheduled to ship on August 1, 2005.
