Colleges and universities adopt Remote Director monitor proofing technology

Press release from the issuing company

New York, NY; April 11, 2005 – Integrated Color Solutions (ICS) — the technology leader in monitor proofing — donated more than $1 million worth of its latest Remote Director technology to leading graphic arts education and training institutions across the United States in an effort to promote higher education and the proliferation of monitor proofing technologies. The donation is part of the company’s newly launched Remote Director Educational Outreach Initiative. “We are pleased to have Remote Director, a representative of the latest technology and solutions in the area of ICC color management,” stated Dr. Abhay Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Imaging, Parkview Campus, Western Michigan University. “We are aware of the increased importance that soft proofing is going to play in the market and use Remote Director to show our students how such a system works. The software is simple to use, does not have complicated dongles or security systems and will work from anywhere you have a network connection – just what we need in an educational environment. Our students and researchers are benefiting greatly from having access to this state of the art product. In fact, I have an obligatory assignment in my color management class that ensures that all students have used Remote Director before they graduate!” The goal of the Remote Director Educational Outreach Initiative is to provide students with the necessary tools, and experience in using those tools, to succeed as the graphic arts industry shifts toward monitor proofing and an all-digital workflow. ICS creates some of the most cutting-edge monitor proofing technologies and by providing the schools with Remote Director software students have an opportunity to work with new proofing technologies they would not normally be able to access. Additionally, the professors gain experience and are able to remain familiar with even the latest advances. “We’re very happy to be able to offer Remote Director to graphic arts schools and colleges across the country. By introducing and providing Remote Director, we’re able to offer these students exposure to the newest proofing technology and allow them to network digitally with others in the industry,” said John Sweeney, ICS vice president of sales and marketing. “Any degree-granting institution is eligible to participate and I encourage them to contact me directly.” Remote Director is the first SWOP Certified monitor proofing system. Running on commercially available hardware, Remote Director software allows multiple reviewers, on their own computer screens from any remote location, to view, collaborate and comment on color as well as content, and to build a digital record of the proofing process from start to finish including legal signoff. Colleges and universities, observing the industry’s rapid adoption of Remote Director and other soft proofing technologies, are positioning themselves to better educate students by incorporating Remote Director directly into the classroom and monitor proofing into its overall curricula. “ICS turned the concept of remote proofing into a reality with Remote Director and this is something that RIT feels is important as we design students’ curriculum based on needs relevant to the industry,” said Bob Chung, professor, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). “Remote Director exposes students with options that are attractive and allows them to explore and better understand the available technology used to meet the demands of the industry cycle time.” “Cal Poly prides itself on staying at the forefront of technology. We recognize the impact that the rapid adoption of soft proofing is having on the graphic arts industry and so it is necessary for us to implement these technologies in programs that benefit both our students as well as our outreach to professionals in the industry,” added Hal Hinderliter, director of the Graphic Communication Institute, California Polytechnic State University. “Remote Director will be a great asset to our programs in that it will demonstrate proven methods for soft proofing that are currently being adopted in the industry.” Jeffrey Silverman, ICS president and CEO added, “Monitor proofing is a reality and ICS believes in providing institutions with the necessary tools to better educate its students who are the next generation of graphic arts professionals and the Remote Director Education Initiative accomplishes this effort.” Institutions participating in the Remote Director Education Outreach Initiative include: Clemson University (Clemson, S.C.), RIT- Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, New York), Western Michigan (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Cal Poly - California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), Ferris State Michigan (Ann Arbor, Mich.), GATF - Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (Sewickley, Penn.), Harry V. Quadracci Printing & Graphics Center at Waukesha County Technical College (Pewaukee, Wisc.), NAA - Newspaper Association of America (Vienna, Va.), Fullerton College (Fullerton, Calif.), Pasadena City College (Pasadena, Calif.), Riverside Community College (Riverside, Calif.), Central Missouri State University (Warrensburg, Mo.), Arizona State University (Mesa, Ariz.), Pittsburg State University (Pittsburg, Kansas), Murray State University (Murray, Ken.) and New York City Technical College (Brooklyn, New York).
