Oce Introduces Powerful OCR Engine, Oce RecoStar Professional 3.0

Press release from the issuing company

PHILADELPHIA, May 17 -- AIIM/OnDemand Conference, Booth #2101, Pennsylvania Convention Center -- Oce today introduced Oce RecoStar Professional V3.0, the latest version of this powerful recognition voting engine, introduced at the 2000 AIIM Show. Oce RecoStar Professional delivers the combined power of the two most acclaimed production recognition engines in the world, Oce RecoStar and Oce AEG Recognition Software, and has a 60% worldwide market share. Oce RecoStar Professional V3.0 further improves recognition rates significantly, depending on form type, from the already impressive recognition rates of Oce RecoStar Professional V2.6. The gains are the result of enhancements in three areas: special internal adaptive image preprocessing, the use of extended voting with expert recognizer, and completely new contextual post processing. For example, the new adaptive preprocessing enables best enhancement of degraded machine print and dot matrix print recognition found on HCFA forms, invoices and other mission-critical business documents. In extensive tests, Oce found that Oce RecoStar Professional V3.0 can lower the reject rate and error rate simultaneously by 10-15% and more over V2.6 on data without context. Even with add-on business rules that absorb some of the increased accuracy, end-users will experience real benefit in an automated data capture solution. A lower reject rate translates into less data to be keyed in by the user, and a lower error rate will increase the integrity of the data processed. As explained by Michael Breithaupt, Oce's Technical Director, "Upgrading from previous versions of Oce RecoStar Professional to V3.0 will bring huge savings to our existing customer base. We estimate the new version will cut down our customers' data entry cost by 5 - 7%." The latest version of Oce RecoStar Professional V3.0 also improves the processing of MICR codeline (E13B) using new line extraction, classifier and post processing. Mr. Breithaupt commented: "We are seeing more and more need to recognize check code (MICR) lines with OCR as Check 21 is implemented. The magnetic ink used on checks is frequently not to specifications, or magnetic ink is not used, and OCR can deliver improved recognition rates." Oce RecoStar Professional V3.0 is available as a free upgrade to companies enrolled in Oce RecoStar Professional's maintenance program.
