Canon Highlights Entire Document Life Cycle On Demand

PHILADELPHIA--May 17, 2005-- At AIIM/On Demand, May 17th-19th, Canon U.S.A., Inc. (Booth #1900) will showcase the entire "Document Life Cycle" through an unparalleled range of digital imaging hardware and workflow software solutions that highlight the Company's competitive leadership in commercial, corporate and graphics system offerings. Canon's view of the Document Life Cycle includes empowering customers to create, distribute, and manage all forms of information - both hard copy and electronic, without restriction, at multiple destinations across a diverse and ever-changing digital landscape. At AIIM/On Demand, Canon will be introducing a number of new imagePROGRAF large-format printers and DR Scanner systems, as well as several new imageWARE software offerings, Genuine Canon Print Media and a new Canon Multifunction Embedded Application Platform (MEAP) solution. "Canon's legacy of innovation in imaging technologies has uniquely positioned us to support the entire Document Life Cycle - allowing us to become a true imaging solutions company," said Tod Pike, senior vice president, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. "Through the integration of our imaging hardware and software with networking and corporate IT systems, Canon now implements seamless digital workflow systems to streamline document management and maximize customer value and return on investment." New products being introduced include: imagePROGRAF W6400 and W8400 At AIIM/On Demand, Canon is formally introducing a breakthrough in large format print engines combined with a powerful suite of diverse software - the imagePROGRAF W8400 (44") and W6400 (24") - to offer printing professionals advanced functionality, performance and productivity solutions for creating, processing, and printing large format output. These printers include Canon's proprietary print head technology, which enables high-speed printing at 2400 x 1200 dpi with precise four picoliter ink droplets for high image resolution, clarity and detail. Canon's six-color pigment ink set now offers interchangeable black inks to produce a broad and realistic color gamut. Canon has also broadened its large format media portfolio - including a Glossy Adhesive Film as well as two medias for the Fine Arts market, Canon Fine Arts Photorag (188gsm) by Hahnemule and Canon Enhanced Velvet (255 gsm) by Someset - for a more diverse range of applications including posters, banners, backlit displays, photographs, and fine art reproductions. Both of the new imagePROGRAF printers come with a suite of software, including: PosterArtist, a template based program to design and customize poster signs and banners; Digital Photo Print Pro, a photo-printing tool that allows the editing, manipulation and management of digital images and large graphic files to efficiently interface with PhotoPrint Select; as well an Adobe Postscript 3(TM) software RIP. The combination of Canon's new imagePROGRAF large format printer with included software packages delivers end-users a truly effective, efficient and flexible large format printing solution. DR Scanners - DR-2050C & DR-7580 Canon will also preview the DR-2050C, a sleek, compact digital document scanner that scans letter-size documents in black-and-white or grayscale at speeds of up to 20 pages-per-minute (ppm)(1) simplex / 40 images-per-minute (ipm) duplex at 200 dpi and 24-bit color, as well as up to 10 ppm (simplex) / 20 ipm (duplex) at 150 dpi. Despite its compact size, the DR-2050C ships with a wide array of features and functions that make it ideal for workgroups and distributed scanning applications, and includes the same superior document handling, image quality and color capability synonymous with the DR-Series scanner line. In addition, Canon will launch the new DR-7580 production scanner, designed to offer high-performance image capture at an affordable price for low-to mid-volume environments. The new DR-7580 scanner incorporates Canon's state-of-the-art scanning engine developed for the award winning DR-9080C(2), and delivers outstanding image quality with optimized throughput and ease of use. Based on Canon's advanced image processing technology, the DR-7580 achieves up to 75 pages-per-minute in black-and-white or grayscale at 200 dpi. Ribstone Solution's MEAP Scan-to-Print Bates Stamping Solution Also in Canon's booth, Ribstone will show its MEAP Scan-To-Print application, a version of its popular software solution that can run directly on MEAP-enabled imageRUNNER devices. The MEAP Scan-To-Print application is an easy-to-use, kiosk-based application for the simultaneous creation of paginated (Bates Numbered) photocopies and electronic files for corporate legal departments and law firms. Utilizing the Scan-To-Print solution, operators are able to scan, print, Bates Number and create data files with just one pass of an original document from an imageRUNNER device. Ribstone's Image Printer, Capture System and Scan Express applications are the other products scheduled to utilize MEAP, under a previous agreement, and will be available later this year. Ribstone's MEAP Scan-to-Print rich feature set for text placement options, multiple lines of text, pull down menu for commonly used text and multiple fonts/sizes/effects will allow users to customize the Bates numbering output to meet the particular archiving and labeling requirements of the legal environment. Additionally, RSM will have the easiest interface for inserting pages in the middle of a scan group by supporting alpha & numeric suffix sequencing. Ribstone's MEAP Scan-to-Print is currently positioned to service law firms, facility management companies and out-of-house service bureaus of all sizes - providing legal professionals with a simple and intuitive Bates numbering solution. The solution serves as a practical application for segment four through segment six digital copier-based MFP devices, and are ideal for placement on convenience copiers or in-house copy center machines. imageWARE ScanManager 4.0 - Digital Indexing and Retrieval imageWARE Scan Manager v4.0 is a production-level image capture solution, specially designed for high-volume batch capture workflow. Documents can be automatically indexed using zone Optical Character Recognition (OCR), or by using Scan Manager's pre-indexing, post-indexing and input-masking functions for improved retrieval accuracy and reliability. Scan Manager also offers barcode and forms recognition to optimize document processing. imageWARE Document Manager v4.0 - Maximizing Document Archival Control Canon imageWARE Document Manager v4.0 software transforms paper documents into an easy-to-manage, digital document database that can be used to improve day-to-day office productivity by allowing users to capture, manage and distribute critical business information with efficiency and security. imageWARE Document Manager is a storage and retrieval system, designed to provide a centralized method by which information is shared across an organization via integrated scan, fax, print and email. Without sacrificing document integrity, files can be digitally imported or scanned from hardcopy to be archived for powerful document management, searches and retrievals based on properties, dates, key words, languages and annotation. Genuine Canon Print Media Introductions At AIIM/On Demand Expo 2005, Canon will launch Genuine Awareness, a 30 percent post-consumer fiber content paper approved for Canon's Black-and-White and Color imageRUNNER multifunction devices. Ideal for everyday use, this new media has been engineered to for use in high-speed copiers and will be available in Letter, Ledger, Legal and 3-Hole Punch sizes. Canon also is pleased to introduce its new Genuine Color Copy Paper Product Line approved for all Canon CLC, imageRUNNER and Color imageRUNNER copiers. Ideal for documents, presentations and design proposals requiring brilliant color reproduction true to the original copy, Canon's latest Color Copy Paper is now available in 27lb. bond (letter and ledger size) and 75lb. bond (letter size). To further expand its Print Media line-up, Canon will also showcase its new Four-Part Straight Carbonless Paper. Used for printing multi-part forms, edge-pad creation and creating real estate forms, the new Four-Part Carbonless Paper line comes available in a sequence of white/canary/pink/gold.
