Pictorial Offset Corporation Awarded the Rainforest Alliance SmartWood Certification

Press release from the issuing company

Carlstadt, NJ – March 25, 2005 - The Rainforest Alliance recently awarded Pictorial Offset Corporation, with SmartWood certification for its use of paper that comes from forests managed to protect wildlife and invigorate communities. SmartWood certification guarantees that each step of the harvesting and production process for Pictorial Offset’s FSC Chain of Custody certified paper has met rigorous standards for conserving natural resources while benefiting people. In earning SmartWood certification, Pictorial Offset evaluated its waste stream, water consumption and use of chemicals in order to improve its impact on the environment. For example, the company has reduced its water consumption by 75% since 1994. “Pictorial Offset’s commitment to sustainable paper use has enormous implications for the industry and the environment,” says Rainforest Alliance chief of forestry Richard Donovan. “By using paper that comes from well-managed forests, the company is providing an incentive for conservation to landowners and sending a strong message to the paper and printing community that sustainability is a viable and successful business strategy.” Donald Samuels, Managing Partner of Pictorial Offset Corporation says, “We are proud to be certified by the Rainforest Alliance with the SmartWood Certification.  This is one more step on the pathway to our vision of being one of the most civically responsible communications companies within our market reach.  Our customers are very excited about this certification and encourage us to continue our efforts in environmental and community stewardship.”
