Rapid Ray's Grows Business Using Xerox Monochrome Digital Printing and Workflow Tools

Press release from the issuing company

BUFFALO, N.Y. & ROCHESTER, N.Y.--March 21, 2005-- Rapid Ray's Printing and Copying Inc. in Buffalo has installed several Xerox black-and-white digital print systems to help increase revenue and print volume while reducing the time it takes to complete print jobs. The company is using two Xerox Nuvera(TM) 120 Digital Copier/Printers and a DocuTech 6115 Production Publisher to produce 1.3 million pages a month for customized, short-order books and manuals. "Xerox's printers and digital workflow tools are jump-starting our business -- short-run, fast turnaround black-and-white jobs -- while streamlining our production processes," said Victor Garrow, vice president and general manager, Rapid Ray's Printing and Copying Inc. "The entire package of Xerox equipment and software is making our lives easier." Rapid Ray's does a significant amount of business for architecture firms and construction companies that often require books including physical specifications, time schedules, and labor and wage agreements for contract bids. With the Xerox Nuvera Copier/Printers and FreeFlow(TM) Makeready software, the company can scan originals once, store them as digital files, and print the exact number of books needed on-demand. This allows Rapid Ray's clients to reduce overbuying, save on inventory costs, and get their print jobs done quicker with fewer errors. Most of Rapid Ray's orders are for 25 books or less with some print runs up to 1,000. The 120 page-per-minute black-and-white Xerox devices provide advanced digital capabilities, including high-quality output and reliable uptime, which helped the quick-print company win a two-year contract for a local school system construction project. In addition to its Xerox Nuvera Copier/Printers, Rapid Ray's needed a high-volume production device that could produce booklets, programs and larger volume books quickly and affordably. The company installed a 115-ppm DocuTech 6115 Production Publisher that quickly became its workhorse system, producing half of the company's print volume per month. "With more of our customers using photos and graphics, both the DocuTech 6115 and Nuvera Copier/Printers give us digital systems that are reliable and produce the high image quality needed," said Garrow. Using FreeFlow(TM) Makeready software, part of the Xerox FreeFlow(TM) Digital Workflow Collection, the company is able to streamline its production process. It is also now able to store digital files of every major job and distribute them to the machine that is optimal for production, increasing productivity and profitability. A Xerox customer for nearly two decades, Rapid Ray's has provided quick-print services to the Western New York region since 1973. The six-employee company specializes in high-speed digital copying and printing, architecture and engineering specifications, carbonless office forms, offset printing, signature booklets, fliers and newsletters.
