MOSAIC Commits to EPA’s Climate Leaders Program

Press release from the issuing company

CHEVERLY, MD – April 22, 2008 – MOSAIC, a premier print communication company and one of the most environmentally friendly printers in the United States, is proud to announce that it has joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s prestigious Climate Leaders Program. This important step is the latest in a series of initiatives undertaken by MOSAIC to highlight its leadership as an environmentally responsible corporate citizen and employer.

Climate Leaders is a voluntary EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Partner companies commit to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of their greenhouse gas emissions based on a quality management system, setting aggressive reduction goals, and annually reporting their progress to EPA. Participation in the program enables companies to create a credible record of their accomplishments and receive EPA recognition as corporate environmental leaders. To date, only five U.S. printing firms have earned the Climate Leaders Program distinction.

"Environmental stewardship informs every aspect of our vision and mission at MOSAIC," says Brendan Connors, Co-President. "Because we feel it is our obligation to preserve the ecosystem for future generations, we constantly look for new ways to improve our environmental footprint and encourage others in the business community to follow suit. While our participation in the Climate Leaders program is a significant link in the chain of our environmental accomplishments, it is by no means the first and certainly will not be the last of our efforts."

A recognized leader in waterless printing since 1993, MOSAIC has been FSC-certified since 2005, and on Earth Day 2007 announced that it had achieved carbon-neutral status, based on its investment in 100 percent wind power and reforestation programs undertaken to offset the carbon emissions from its operation.

"Climate change, sustainability and corporate social responsibility are among the defining issues of our time," adds MOSAIC Co-President Joe Fontana. "To do their part, printing companies must take a hard look at the environmental impact of everything they do. Sustainability means taking responsibility for the world we live in, work in and share with others. We at MOSAIC feel this obligation keenly, and are prepared to take whatever actions are necessary to protect the environment and preserve it for generations yet to come."

To date, this environmentally progressive company has offset more than 3,726,000 pounds of CO2 from employee automobiles and natural gas consumption. Its carbon-neutral distinction has earned MOSAIC membership in the EPA's Green Power Leadership Club, an elite group of companies recognized for making exemplary green power choices that significantly exceed minimum requirements. The company recycles 885 tons of paper and uses 65,000 pounds of soy-based ink annually, while a solvent-recovery system limits the disposal of spent pressroom chemicals. As a result of these and other improvements, MOSAIC has been designated a "Best Workplace in America" by PIA/GATF for five years running.
