GMC Software Technology Continues Aggressive Alignment With Leading Quality Measurements

Press release from the issuing company

February 14, 2005 – Appenzell, Switzerland and Boston, MA – GMC Software Technology today announced it continues to meet the stringent qualifications of internationally accepted quality standards for software development. GMC has achieved documented compliance with leading quality measurement protocols with a strategy of continuous improvement and quality management based on the principals of Capability Maturity Model or CMM, Six Sigma and ISO 9000 standards. “A fundamental tenet of our business is to provide customers with the highest quality solutions for their needs, and we back this up with our continuous pursuit of quality improvement and measurement,” said Rene Mueller, CEO of GMC Software AG. “By adhering to multiple quality standards, we ensure a focus on improvement that encompasses all aspects of our business. For several years, we have been building a strong foundation for quality assurance, and we have implemented an a highly effective, measurable program in a relatively short time.” Since December 2002, GMC has pursued quality goals through CMM, which uses a proven methodology for improving software development, project estimation, productivity, analysis and benchmarking. Developed by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Melon University, CMM participants follow a path of repeatable success similar to an ISO 9000 certification process. Companies progress through five levels, and Levels 3, 4 and 5 represent companies that are achieving very predictable and positive results. GMC has achieved a rating of 3.7 in four years. Among the significant benefits of CMM have been an improved software features list, a solid process of determining customer needs and incorporating them into actual development plans and product enhancements, and a much more streamlined and rapid development capability. Most importantly, the program helps GMC prioritize software development ideas, make the best using of staffing resources, and focus on the capabilities that will most benefit customers. Customers also benefit from decreased risk because software releases are based on predictable quality assurance methodologies. Since 2003, GMC has maintained certification in the well-known quality management standard of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 for its software development program. In 2004, worldwide ISO 9001:2000 certification was achieved by GMC for its development and operating companies. Meeting the rigorous requirements of this international standard is testimony to GMC’s diligence in pursuing the highest standards of software development and testing. GMC is also an aggressive follower of Six Sigma, a rigorous and disciplined methodology that uses data and statistical analysis to measure and improve a company's operational performance by identifying and eliminating "defects" in manufacturing and service-related processes. The goal of Six Sigma is to increase profits by eliminating variability, defects and waste that undermine customer loyalty. GMC software development processes are constantly scrutinized to ensure their compliance with Six Sigma principals. As a provider of enterprise level software solutions and services, GMC Software Technology offers a broad range of document design, composition and production solutions for the financial, insurance, energy, utilities, commercial print and direct mail industries. GMC products are based on open standards and specifications to ensure full compatibility with customer and partner technology and architectural requirements.
