JW Boarman increases throughput with Muller Martini Bravo-T Saddle Stitcher

Press release from the issuing company

Baltimore, Maryland – “We’re more competitive,” said Ed Eck, President of JW Boarman. With these three simple words, Mr. Eck described the essence of what the recent installation of a Muller Martini Bravo-T Saddle Stitcher has meant to his business. JW Boarman is a growing commercial printer with 30 employees. The company handles a diverse range of projects including brochures, catalogs, annual reports, and pamphlets in up to 8 colors. For 18 years, JW Boarman had relied on a Muller Martini Minuteman stitcher for its finishing requirements and although the Minuteman performed very dependably throughout all those many years, Boarman was in need of a change. Based on their own success with Muller Martini equipment in the past and on Muller’s world-renowned reputation for solutions-oriented finishing expertise, Ed Eck and his staff decided that the Bravo-T stitcher was “the machine we want.” Since its installation in December, 2004, the Bravo-T has made a substantial difference in the production efficiency as well as the potential future business growth of JW Boarman. Specifically, make-readies are faster than ever before, binding is more consistent, and the opportunities for handling a wider variety of print jobs are more readily available to Boarman because the company now has the ability to handle projects in larger-size formats. Perhaps best of all, each of the above benefits has been accomplished in the most cost-effective ways possible, without the need for JW Boarman to increase its manpower expenditures. Furthering the efficiency and productivity of its new Bravo-T stitcher is the fact that Boarman added an optional compensating stacker. “The stacker is worth its weight in gold,” commented Ed Eck. Also highly valuable to JW Boarman has been the experience and responsiveness of Muller Martini. “It was a very smooth installation,” continued Mr. Eck. “Muller’s knowledgeable people have provided great support.” The Muller Martini Bravo-T Saddle Stitcher operates at 11,000 cycles per hour, and with its PLC assisted controls and menu-guided screen, it allows for quick and easy changeovers. The versatile Bravo-T comes equipped with a three-knife trimmer and JW Boarman has added an optional 4th and 5th knife to handle 2-up work. What’s more, with its modular design, Bravo-T can be expanded at any time to feed up to 14 signatures or 12 signatures with a cover folder feeder. Besides the fastest make-readies of any medium-speed saddle stitcher on the market, the Muller Martini Bravo-T offers the best price-performance ratio of any stitcher in its class. Other key advantages include: gripper and suction opening; individual 1:2/1:1 gearing, heavy-duty in-line single book trimmer; and frequency controlled drive.
