Buhrs entering the market for FSI Collating & Wrapping Systems

Press release from the issuing company

Minneapolis, January 18, 2005 – Buhrs, producer of Mailing & Fulfillment Solutions, today announced their intention to enter the market for FSI Collating & Wrapping systems for the Newspaper Industry. Buhrs has had great success in Europe with large integrated systems for TMC production for clients such as Deutsche Post. Buhrs has answered a need for collating and wrapping systems in both Germany and The Netherlands, where privatized postal companies are ramping up to deliver targeted print advertising through their carriers. Buhrs 4700 systems at Deutsche Post feed, collate, and wrap up to thirty advertising pieces for address-specific home delivery. The Buhrs 4700 is unique in that it: •Features modular “roll-up and connect” servo-driven RF5 insert feeders which can be made-ready off-line, or even while the system is running. The Buhrs RF-5 feeder has shown itself to be a strong performer in dealing with the wide variety of ad inserts that newspapers must deal with. Recent modifications have only made it more efficient. •Integrated the new Buhrs System Controller (BSC), Buhrs controls which permit zoned advertising pieces to be switched while the system is in production. Automatic Feeder Synchronization (AFS) allows feeders to be engaged ‘on the fly’. With the BSC it is very easy to integrate almost any brand and type of inkjet system. The BSC provides an extensive Management Information System (MIS) and the capability to communicate with every production scheduler online or through a LAN connection. •Is a polywrapper which measures collated pack length and thickness every machine cycle and makes real-time adjustments. This new invention of Buhrs is called Automatic Wrap Set-up (AWS). •Features operator friendliness in various ways: a low noise level (approx 75 dB), easy controls through the touch screen operator panel with storable job settings and a relatively low linear speed what makes the system easy to load. Jan Clement, Director, Sales & Marketing of Buhrs Mailing Systems says “Advertising inserts are a real “growth” market in Europe, and we have tried to answer production needs with very sophisticated machines which can maximize output with a minimum of training” “We would like to bring the Buhrs 4700 technology to the U.S. newspaper market where ad inserts continue to show strong growth. It’s not unusual for the large Buhrs 4700 systems in Europe to run over 15,000 packages per hour and to produce over 100,000 wrapped packages in a single shift.” Buhrs has appointed Don Piontek of Finishing Resources to develop Buhrs’ presence in the US Market for FSI Collating & Wrapping Systems to the Newspaper Industry. Don has worked with Buhrs since the 90’s.
