Speedfast Color Press Announces Chain-of-Custody Certification under the FSC

Press release from the issuing company

January 12, 2005 - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – Speedfast Color Press Inc. is proud to announce that they are the first commercial printing company in Alberta to obtain the Chain-of-Custody Certification from the SmartWood program of the Rainforest Alliance under the Forest Stewardship Council’s standards. FSC is recognized world-wide as the most rigorous and credible forest certification system. This certification will allow Speedfast Color Press Inc. to make use of FSC-certified paper to print jobs with the FSC trademarked ‘checkmark and tree’ logo, as a way of ensuring purchasers that the paper was made from wood harvested from well-managed forests. One of the premier printing companies in Canada, Speedfast Color Press Inc. is dedicated to leading the way on environmental standards. “We are constantly setting our standards higher and demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility” said Mike Steiner, CEO of Speedfast Color Press Inc. “Sustainability is highly important to me personally and as a businessman. We continue to respond to the needs of our clients that are looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of their printed materials. Our collaborative efforts with Smartwood and the FSC have given us the honour of being one of the first printing companies in Western Canada to earn FSC certification” “We are pleased that Speedfast has taken the lead in becoming the first commercial printer in Alberta to earn FSC certification,” says Richard Z. Donovan, chief of the forestry at the Rainforest Alliance. “This commitment will give the people of Alberta, especially Speedfast customers, the ability to choose paper from an environmentally and socially responsible source.”
