Heidelberg Installs Speedmaster SM 102 Press At Illinois Direct Mail Commercial Printer

Press release from the issuing company

KENNESAW, Ga., January 18, 2005 – In an effort to meet customer demand for aqueous coating and perfecting capabilities, Specialty Printing, a high-volume direct mail print shop located in Niles, Ill., recently installed a six-color Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102 press with coater and perfector. The Speedmaster SM 102 joins a long tradition of Heidelberg machinery at Specialty Printing. President Adam M. LeFebvre said the new press enables the shop to extend its coating capabilities and serve clients more completely. With the new press, Specialty Printing anticipates expanding its sheetfed operation to increase sales to the end user. The shop also has a Speedmaster 102 that has been in use since 1996. “Heidelberg plays an important role in our ability to be a one-stop shop for clients,” said LeFebvre. “We started receiving requests from clients for aqueous coating and Heidelberg’s SM 102 with coater was the obvious solution. We were very happy with our existing press, but we needed to upgrade due to increased market demand. By investing in the quality equipment Heidelberg provides, we are offering state of the art technology that will benefit our existing customers while enabling us to target high-end sheetfed work like never before.” A flexible press designed for the ever-changing needs of commercial printers, the redesigned Speedmaster SM 102 permits high-quality, double-sided printing in a single pass. The new Drupa 2004 model presses are available with a host of new features, including enhanced cylinder surfaces for even higher quality in both straight and perfecting modes. The new Plus feeder system incorporates an innovative suction-belt design which allows even faster setup, and increase net output. Additional features that the SM 102 model family offers include: •Perfecting and coating on both sides simultaneously •Control of all important peripheral devices using the touchscreen of the Prinect CP2000 Center via the CANopen connection •Improved safety and ergonomics •Enhanced automation due to Heidelbergs ongoing development program “The Speedmaster SM 102, like Heidelberg’s entire portfolio of 40-inch long presses, is designed to meet the needs of the most sophisticated print buyers,” said John Dowey, Vice President of Sheetfed Product Management for Heidelberg USA. “Our latest innovation in long perfectors (machines with 8-, 10-, or 12-color configurations) is our exclusive Perfecting Coating Solution (PCS) technology. This allows a printer to use a printing unit to either print or coat the sheet, and can be used in perfecting mode on both sides of the sheet in one pass. It is this type of pioneering innovation that keeps Heidelberg in the leadership position for perfecting presses.” Currently, Specialty Printing uses the new press to produce general commercial materials such as credit card inserts, postcards, self-mailers and bang tail reply envelopes. The new Speedmaster SM 102 enables the shop to drive traffic and attract customers by offering them more options and alternatives for work output. In addition to the Speedmasters, Specialty Printing has several other pieces of Heidelberg equipment including three POLAR cutters, two M-110’s, a Sunday 2000 web and a NexPress digital press. “Heidelberg equipment is bullet-proof and a great investment for our shop,” said LeFebvre. “Heidelberg’s commitment to quality and service allows us to offer our customers a confident solution with flexibility to match any and all of their demands. Additionally, our relationship
