NORTHLAKE, IL - January 11, 2005 - Steve Miller has been named commercial technical manager for Kohl & Madden (K&M), the commercial inks division of Sun Chemical North American Inks, according to Cynthia Arnold, chief technology officer, Sun Chemical. Miller will lead K&M’s new Sheetfed/Commercial applications and development lab in Northlake. In addition, he will be responsible for the regional technical managers and customer support team, and K&M’s color systems program. Prior to this promotion, Miller was K&M’s color systems technical manager. He has over 22 years experience in the ink and printing business, including 10 years with K&M. He will be based in Northlake. According to Arnold, this move is part of Sun Chemical’s overall reorganization of its technical group, which allows the company to improve leverage of its global resources. Northlake is also home to Sun Chemical’s energy curable and publication applications and development laboratories. “Sun Chemical is an industry leader in technology and research and development,” Arnold said. “We dedicate more resources to R&D than any other ink company in order to maintain our position as a leader in innovation for our customers. This new position and realignment of the commercial and publication ink R&D resources in Carlstadt, NJ and Northlake allows K&M to share the synergies and collaborate with other areas of Sun Chemical’s technical organization. It also allows our technical centers to become a more customer focused group.” In addition, Arnold said, the North American ink technology centers will continue to work closely with European ink counterparts and the pigments division to develop products that meet customers’ needs and enable their growth. As an example, she pointed to the introduction at drupa 2004 of World Series, a vegetable oil-based set of process inks designed for use on most sheetfed presses and applications around the world.
