ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Jan. 11, 2005-- Eastman Kodak Company today named William J. Lloyd as Chief Technical Officer and Director, Research & Development, effective Feb. 28, 2005. Lloyd, who joined Kodak in June of 2003, had been Director, Inkjet Systems Program. Lloyd, a vice president of the company, will begin the transition to his new duties immediately. He succeeds Dr. James C. Stoffel, who has elected to retire from Kodak at the end of February 2005 and will assist in the transition. As Chief Technical Officer, Lloyd will report to Kodak Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel A. Carp. In his capacity as Director, R&D, he will report to Kodak President and Chief Operating Officer Antonio M. Perez. "Bill Lloyd has a long and successful track record of developing digital products and managing large organizations," Carp said. "We expect Bill to build on that legacy as the head of Kodak's technology efforts." Prior to Kodak, Lloyd was president of a consulting firm, Inwit Inc., and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Gemplus International, a leading maker of Smart Cards. He has also served as Co-Chief Executive Officer of Phogenix Imaging. Before joining Phogenix, Lloyd spent 31 years at Hewlett-Packard Company, rising to the position of Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Inkjet Products Group. Lloyd holds a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and a MSEE in Computer Engineering from Stanford University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Infotonics Technology Center. "Bill is intimately familiar with digital markets and has a clear vision for the evolution of digital technologies," Perez said. "From his previous experience in both research and product development, he knows how to shepherd technology promptly and successfully from the laboratory to the customer. Bill will bring new energy and insights to Kodak's world-renowned R&D organization." Stoffel joined Kodak in 1997 and became Director, R&D, in 1998 and CTO in 1999. He joined Kodak after 25 years at Xerox Corp. He holds more than 25 U.S. patents, and is the author of an image processing reference book for graduate students. As Director of R&D and CTO, Stoffel has helped guide a transformation of the R&D portfolio from one steeped in traditional silver halide technology to one steeped in digital systems technologies. "As our first digital CTO, Jim Stoffel has served Kodak well by helping to lead the company into new digital markets," Carp said. "We thank him for all that he has done to help establish Kodak as a major player in digital imaging." Stoffel is Vice Chairman of the Board of the Information Technologies Industries Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Harris Corporation, Trustee of the George Eastman House, and on the Advisory Board of the Graduate School at the University of Notre Dame.
