NexPress Customers Experience Significant Page Volume Growth in 2004

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., January 10, 2005 -- Customers of NexPress Solutions, Inc., a Kodak company, have experienced a 20 percent increase from 2003 to 2004 in average monthly page volume printed on KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 digital production color presses. With an 81 percent increase in total pages printed year over year, and the total of pages printed on the 2100 surpassing the 1 billion page milestone in 2004, customers worldwide are using NexPress' digital print solution to offer innovative print applications to their clients. "NexPress is helping customers achieve success through a combination of robust technology and a dynamic set of consulting, service and workflow solutions," said Venkat Purushotham, president and CEO, NexPress Solutions. "Our success in helping customers create and grow their digital businesses shows that we have the right combination of technology, solutions and professional services." "This is really the story of digital printing - how applications such as on-demand printing, web-to-print and variable data printing are driving demand - and how NexPress technology and solutions are helping customers drive their businesses," continued Purushotham. "Our customers are innovators and change agents in the graphic communications industry. We are proud of how our system is performing to meet our customers' needs." Purushotham noted that customers who have entered the digital business with the NEXPRESS 2100 press are continually building profitable businesses in digital printing. And Kodak is propelling this success - clients who have engaged KODAK NEXPERT digital print professional services for workflow integration and advanced solutions are seeing average monthly page volumes running approximately 50 percent higher over other users. Dozens of customers, including Principal Financial Group and RT Associates, have produced more than one million pages on one press in a single month. The following NexPress customers are driving change in a graphic communications market in the midst of a slow but steady economic recovery and exemplify the many ways of working and creating high-value, profitable opportunities for themselves and their clients. Principal Financial Group: A Workhorse for Client Communication Principal Financial Group, a leading 401K administrative service provider, uses five NEXPRESS 2100 presses for printing communications to its customers. Principal installed its first 2100 in 2004 and has produced more than 1.8 million pages in one month on a single press. According to Tom Reed, director of document services at Principal, the company expects to run upwards of 30 million pages on its presses each year, including brochures, posters, booklets, mailing inserts and customized reports for its customers. "We produce tens of millions of high-quality, personalized communications year-round on our NEXPRESS 2100 presses, and we are impressed with how they perform for us day in and day out," Reed said. "Customer communication is critical to our business. The NEXPRESS 2100 presses deliver value to our customers by enabling us to produce personalized statements with high-impact graphics." RT Associates: Powering Success RT Associates, a Chicago-area full-service solutions provider for digital and offset printing, has used NexPress' consulting services since installing the NEXPRESS 2100 press as its digital color print engine three years ago. NexPress professional services have continued to work with RT Associates, creating an integrated workflow and web-to-print solution, developing substantial new revenue streams and driving print volume growth, evidenced by 18 new customers implementing advanced web-to-print applications. RT Associates recently added a second NEXPRESS 2100 press, and in July, completed a month where they ran more than 3 million impressions on both 2100 presses. "The market has changed for us over the years - where we once sold variable data printing, today we're selling marketing solutions," said Bob Radzis, co-founder and president of RT Associates. "NexPress has been a true partner for our business, working with us to integrate technology and workflow in ways that help us better serve our customers and grow our business. We now have about 20 customers using our `automated marketing solutions.' NexPress' professional services team has been instrumental in helping us develop solutions our customers need - solutions that have driven the growth of our business." Pacific Printing and Fulfillment: Living the Offset to Digital Transformation Redwood City, Calif.-based Pacific Printing and Fulfillment has focused on a "quick turn" philosophy with high quality to serve customers like Banana Republic, Google, Bon Appetit Management Company and Sony Computer Entertainment America. With full offset, digital and fulfillment resources in-house, the company uses its NEXPRESS 2100 press for on-demand and variable data printing, and cites the quality of the digital press' output as driving use of digital to replace offset work in many applications. Pacific Printing and Fulfillment installed its NEXPRESS 2100 press in April 2004 and is already running at volumes of more than 500,000 pages per month -- and that number is rising steadily. "The print quality of the NEXPRESS 2100 press really impresses our team and our customers. In a survey of our clients, who include marketers running global consumer brands, most saw no difference in quality between offset prints and output from the NEXPRESS 2100 press for the type of jobs they run," said Todd Deskins, director of business development at Pacific Printing and Fulfillment. "The quality of output from the NEXPRESS 2100 press enables us to run shorter run jobs on our digital press that we previously ran on our offset machines, and NexPress' consulting has helped us streamline our processes to create and grow our work in variable data printing and fast, same day turnarounds our customers have come to expect from us." Polestar Wheatons: Expanding Their Offerings With New Value-Added Services As part of the Polestar Group, one of Europe's leading independent printing companies, Polestar Wheatons specializes in the production of academic journals, directories, registers of information and electronic & automotive component catalogues - mostly on conventional heat set web and cold set web. Looking for a better way of producing academic journals, the company turned to the NEXPRESS 2100 press, making an immediate difference in how they produced the journals and abstracts. The NEXPRESS 2100 press allowed Wheatons to offer added services within the Polestar Group, like catalogue production, very quick runs, pre-printed magazines and pre-sell editions for high-profile quality publications and small, value-added booklets for customers of other Polestar Group members. "Our original requirement was mainly monochrome, supported with some color," reported Bob Brown, managing director of Polestar Wheatons. "When we chose the NEXPRESS 2100 press, we found it allows a different take on print. The market for special, personalized print has grown and continues to grow. When our customers see what we can produce on this press, they are sold. While there is still a place for litho print, we can see the migration through the uptake in design and creativity. With the NEXPRESS 2100 press, we can offer our customers short-run digital color print at the highest quality levels on any stock available. It is the best machine in its class. We will definitely be looking at further investment for the future." Msp Druck & Medien: Building Customer Loyalty Msp Druck & Medien customers benefit from the company's 360-degree media services. The Mudersbach, Germany-based provider offers call center, pre-press, database programming, data management, print, post-press and also letter shop services. Quality, flexibility and innovation are key to Msp to attain their goals - to increase customer loyalty and to deploy growth potential with innovative application opportunities. The company increasingly uses its NEXPRESS 2100 press to produce full-color targeted communications. "One-to-one marketing, print-on-demand and fulfillment represent the growth markets of the future," said Bruno Stricker, general manager, Msp Druck & Medien. "In addition to its high quality, the reliability of the NEXPRESS 2100 press enables us to build on our existing services and develop integrated customer relationships in a very competitive environment. It is a true production solution that allows us to better control uptime and cost through its ORC (Operator Replaceable Component) concept."
