Pacific Printing and Fulfillment Grows Business and Expands Services With the NexPress

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., November 18, 2004 — Pacific Printing and Fulfillment, Inc. (PPFI), a $6 million printing services company in Redwood City, California, has seen continuous growth in both print volume and customer satisfaction since installing its first KODAK NEXPRESS 2100 digital production color press six months ago. The firm has expanded its range of services, increased its share of existing customer business, and added some new clients. Recently, PPFI’s NEXPRESS 2100 press approached the milestone of a half-million color prints for one month — and that number rises steadily each month. “We’re a full-service, fast-turnaround, print-on-demand company. We pride ourselves on never missing a deadline,” said Vince Lepera, PPFI co-founder, president and CEO. “For more than 10 years we’ve been successful as a commercial printer in a dynamic and competitive market. In terms of convenience and turnaround, we now also compete with overnight delivery copy shops. With the new NEXPRESS 2100 press, we’re able to win consistently on speed, quality and price.” PPFI’s NEXPRESS 2100 press has produced a wide range of materials and applications for globally recognized brands, including Banana Republic, Google, Bon Appetit Management Company and Sony Computer Entertainment America. These demanding companies accept only the best quality output. As the capabilities of the press have become better known, the amount of client work coming in has risen. The result is that PPFI expects to increase overall revenues by more than 20 percent in 2004. While the majority of digital print work done by PPFI is short-run, fast-turnaround projects, an increasing number of jobs involve variable data printing. This, Lepera said, “is the future of print communications.” And the NEXPRESS 2100 press is a critical element in that future. “The market is just waking up to this revolutionary capability,” said Lepera. “Our NEXPRESS system is able to handle the toughest variable data jobs with ease. With the consultation of NexPress Solutions, we’re now setting up a fully automated Web-to-print system that will make the process faster and more efficient. We’ve also established partnerships with key database service providers, to complete that part of the picture. In 2005, we see this as more fuel for growth. With new capabilities, we are able to grow our business by offering more services to our current clients, and we have evolved from print provider to a full service and marketing provider.” “PPFI is an example of a company that saw an opportunity to grow its business and be more responsive to market needs, with the addition of a digital printing solution from NexPress,” said Ron Sarne, NexPress manager of business development and digital marketing. “They broadened their business model and offered key new services — and have transformed from a printer to a true communications services provider.” Perhaps the key to PPFI’s growth and customer satisfaction has been the winning combination of print quality and consistently high system uptime and productivity. This allows the company to meet the tightest deadlines with offset-level quality, and also remain competitive on pricing. “We looked very closely at the other high-end systems on the market,” Lepera said. “What sold me on the 2100 was the Operator Replaceable Component (ORC) concept. If we have a problem, we can usually fix it ourselves — not have to wait hours for a service technician to arrive. Our business model would not have succeeded as it has with any other product. So far we have had zero problems with this system.” Another important factor for choosing the 2100 is the versatility to print on a wide range of substrates. “With the NEXPRESS 2100 press, we can even print packaging materials. The versatility, flexibility and high uptime of the 2100 contributes to our ability to complete jobs the same day – and our customers thank us by sending us even more work.”
