Oce LightJet 430 Wins 2004 DPI Product of the Year Award

Press release from the issuing company

CHICAGO, Nov. 3 -- Oce, a global leader in digital document management and delivery solutions, announced today that the Oce LightJet 430 photo laser printer won the 2004 Digital Printing and Imaging (DPI) Association's Product of the Year Award in the Output Device, Photo Print category. The award was presented at the association's annual conference, held in conjunction with the Specialty Graphics and Imaging Association (SGIA) conference in Minneapolis, October 6-9, 2004. DPI Product of the Year Awards compare output from competing devices using a common test file designed by DPI. The prints are reviewed by a panel of judges, each with a background and expertise in digital printing and imaging. The judges look for color appeal, detail and tonality, and the output is also judged on how closely it matches the test print. The Oce LightJet 430 previously won this award in 2001. Oce LightJet models have won more honors for quality than any other wide format photo printer, including Digital Imaging Management Association's (DIMA) Shoot-Out in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 (two wins); DPI Product of the Year in 1996, 2001 and 2004; Focus on Imaging magazine's Cool2 Award in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000; COMFOT Mexico Shoot-Out in 2001; and Photographic Processing magazine's Top Product in 2001. About the Oce LightJet 430 The Oce LightJet 430 produces superior quality digital prints using three lasers to image photographic media within an internal drum system. Its continuous tone output, which has no dots, has an apparent resolution of 4,000 dpi. It supports roll media in 30-, 32-, 40- and 50-inch widths. With a print speed of up to 465 square feet per hour, the Oce LightJet 430 can image a 50-inch by 120-inch full-bleed image in less than six minutes. Since it has a relatively small footprint and can be loaded and unloaded from the same side, the Oce LightJet 430 requires a darkroom that is only 11 feet by 13 feet. Because the Oce LightJet 430 uses standard photographic media and chemistry, consumables costs are considerably less than for aqueous inkjet printers. Consumables costs for the Oce LightJet 430 are about $0.30 per square foot for photographic paper and chemistry. Aqueous inkjet printers require specially coated media, and the consumables costs for ink and a comparable photo-based paper are about $1.00 per square foot. With its higher speed, photographic quality and very low consumables cost, the Oce LightJet 430 represents exceptional value and profitability compared to aqueous inkjet solutions. Oce also offers a superwide photo laser printer model. The Oce LightJet 500XL can support roll media in 50-, 60-, 72- and 76-inch widths.
